Have you ever wondered what the real-world potential of your research might be?

Applications are now open for Lab2Market Validate Foundations, Alberta, Spring 2026!

Validate Foundations is a three-day virtual training program designed to provide participants with a strong understanding of the process and best practices of research commercialization.

By the end of the program, participants will be prepared to take the first strategic steps toward commercialization and better understand how to position their projects within the broader innovation ecosystem.

Open to current graduate-level students, recent graduates, and post-doctoral researchers at the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, and University of Lethbridge who want to explore the real-world potential of their research.

✨ Calling All ULeth Creative Minds!

Spring can be hectic, but here’s a chance to pause, play, and create something just for fun. We’re refreshing Agility swag and looking for bold, funny, or clever sticker designs from students, staff, and faculty of all majors.

🏆️ The winning design will be printed as an Agility sticker, with copies for you too. A simple, low-stakes way to explore your creativity and take a moment for yourself.

Submission: Digital upload or hand-drawn drop-off at the Innovation Zone

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how we research, write, and innovate. With that comes important questions about intellectual property ownership and rights.

Join us for a Lunch & Learn on AI + Intellectual Property to explore the advantages, risks, and best practices for using AI in academic and research work.

U of L students take home 1st place at the 2026 Launch Point Pitch Competition!

Last Friday's live finals brought together student and community entrepreneurs for a full day of innovative business pitches. Launch Point is a collaboration between the University of Lethbridge, Lethbridge Polytechnic, and community partners, RINSA, Community Futures Lethbridge, and Catapult Startups.

1st place in the student competition went to U of L students Emilio Hurtado, Chandra Suryadevara, and Naveen Vadlamudi for their venture. Their team is developing a mechanical arm–based autonomous injection system for cattle, designed to reduce labour demands and costs in large feedlot operations.

U of L student Kiana Jans placed 3rd, teaming up with Lethbridge Polytechnic student Gavin Warmink to pitch Southpaws Rescue—a platform designed to simplify pet adoption by creating a centralized hub for Southern Alberta rescue listings, helping prospective adopters and rescue organizations connect more easily.

The event featured a keynote from ULethbridge alum and 2024 Launch Point winner , who reflected on the programs, mentors, and opportunities that supported her entrepreneurial journey, including Trailblazing, Lab2Market Discover, and Draper University, and how they helped shape the development of her company, BeeSafe Biotech.

We were also proud to see the UofL iGEM team among this year’s finalists with their project MOSMAGE.

Huge congratulations to all of this year’s finalists. The competition was incredibly close and the ideas were impressive across the board.

Nicole and Abdella are getting ready for tomorrow’s Beginner’s Electronics Workshop in the Innovation Zone! 🔧⚡

They’ve been building cardboard dispenser prototypes so participants can jump straight into the electronics. In this DIY workshop, you’ll learn the basics of electronics and Arduino micro-controllers by programming a motion-sensor pet feeder (or snack machine 👀).

No experience needed — not even the Innovation Zone orientation. It’s a great chance to check out the space if you’ve been curious about it.

Interested in learning how to 3D print? We’re hosting a beginner-friendly workshop that will introduce you to the basics of 3D printing.

No prior experience is required — including Innovation Zone orientation training. If you’re completely new, this is the perfect place to start.

All you need to bring is a laptop, a mouse, and yourself.

This workshop is free and open to all current students, staff, and faculty.
To reserve your spot, please email [email protected], and meet us in the Innovation Zone (SA 6304) from 11 am - 1 pm on Friday, February 27th.

3️⃣ Book a hands-on training session to learn the basics
