π Our amazing Recreation Therapy students are making a real impact! This TR Month, they led a student-driven initiative to raise funds and awareness about the power of Recreation Therapy. Through cookie sales πͺ and a craft sale π¨, they raised over $1,800 for the Men's Shed! Even more support is on the way from Pharmasave Coaldale for their round-up program! The total donation will be around $2200.
We are so proud of all the students' dedication, creativity, and advocacy. This is what TR Month is all about: empowering students to make a difference in the community while promoting the profession. ππ
Special Thanks to:
Our student leadership group: Taylor, Hannah, Erin, Jasmyn, Elle, Jay, Rikki, Sophie and Ciara.
Men's Sheds Lethbridge & Coaldale - Mike and Mark for coming to meet with students and receive the cheque.
The Pie Store - For lending the commercial kitchen to students for making cookies.
Coaldale Pharmasave- For the top-up funding program, allowing customers to round up the total on their purchases, with donations going to Men's Shed

Carey Fowler, a past graduate of our program has been working in the NWT for many years. Congratulations on having your work spotlighted Carey! Once a Kodiak, always a Kodiak!
Empowering clients to overcome barriers and reintegrate into their preferred leisure activity is the focus of the Community Leisure Integration Program, led by Recreation Therapist Carey Fowler at Stanton Territorial Hospital.
The Community Leisure Integration Program supports clients in hospital to either learn a new leisure activity or be reintroduced to one they previously enjoyed. Through one-on-one sessions, Carey works alongside clients to motivate and boost confidence, decrease barriers, and build independence so clients can successfully engage in community leisure programs on their own.
Staff support is gradually reduced as clients gain their confidence and feel comfortable, showing increased self-confidence and self-worth, improved physical health, new social connections and reduced isolation, and greater independence.
February is Therapeutic Recreation Month. Join us in acknowledging and celebrating our great Recreation Therapy team and staff who provide this service.

We are incredibly proud of our students and the amazing work theyβve done in support of Therapeutic Recreation Month! π
Our students came together to plan and bake homemade cookies for a special TR Month fundraiser, with all proceeds supporting the Menβs Sheds initiative. Using a commercial kitchen and applying their Food Safe training, they demonstrated professionalism, teamwork, and a strong commitment to community well-being.
This project reflects what therapeutic recreation is all about: connection, inclusion, and making a meaningful difference beyond the classroom. Thank you to everyone who supported the fundraiser and helped make it a success! More to come on how many cookies were sold and how much money was raised. πͺπ

Happy New Year! Better late than never; weβre excited to reactivate our page.
This semester always starts quickly on campus as itβs compressed into just 10 weeks, allowing students to move into their practicums. We have 52 students ready for placements starting in mid-March, with another 25 set to start in mid-May. As students anxiously await confirmation of their placements, we want to extend our gratitude to the amazing community of recreation therapy practitioners who support them. Our students are in good hands, and we look forward to working with you again!
