Today, we pause to remember the children who never made it home, the Survivors of residential schools, their families, and the generations who continue to carry the impacts.

Phyllis Webstad’s words are an important reminder of why wearing orange matters, but also that reconciliation has to be about more than what we wear today.

As early childhood educators, we have the privilege of spending our days with some of the smallest people who will one day help shape our world. Our children give us so much hope for the future. We believe they can grow up knowing the importance of kindness, respect, belonging, and listening to the stories and experiences of others.

But that work starts with us.

We will continue to pause. We will continue to listen. We will continue to learn from Indigenous peoples and communities, and to reflect on how Indigenous voices, histories, cultures and ways of knowing are represented within our program, not only on September 30, but throughout the year.

Our children will one day change the world, but it is our responsibility to help create the foundation they will build from. 🧡

Today we listen. Tomorrow we keep listening.

This week we celebrated our “year end” with a fun Beach Day Party!🏝️

We decorated the backyard, enjoyed snow cones from Kona Ice of Lethbridge , and the children had so much fun balancing their way across the “shark water!”🦈

We also said farewell to our children heading off to Grade One. We wish them all the best as they begin their next adventure!🎓☀️
