🥊 Flashback Friday 🥊
July 24, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta
Cody Jerome successfully defended his WBC Canadian Super Welterweight Title at the Muay Thai World Cup event, earning a unanimous decision victory in an outstanding performance.
Title defenses are never easy. They require discipline, preparation, and the ability to perform under pressure against an opponent determined to take what you’ve worked so hard to earn. On this night, Cody rose to the occasion and showed exactly why he was Canada’s champion.
We’re proud to look back on another memorable moment in Progressive Fighting Academy history.

Promotions are always special, but they are never given—they are earned.
Today we had the privilege of recognizing years of hard work, consistency, and dedication on the mats.
Congratulations to Steph Ward and Tom Harris on earning their Brown Belts, a milestone that represents not only technical ability, but leadership, perseverance, and a commitment to helping others grow.
Congratulations as well to Joey Boreen on earning his Purple Belt! Joey’s promotion is a reflection of the countless hours spent training, learning, and continuing to show up day after day.
We also had several members receive stripes today, each one representing another step forward on their own journey. Every stripe, every belt, and every class attended is part of a much bigger story.
Jiu-jitsu is measured not only in techniques learned, but in the people we become along the way.
Congratulations to all of today’s recipients—we’re proud to have you representing Progressive Fighting Academy.

Wrestling for MMA.
If you want to compete in MMA, you can’t afford to ignore wrestling.
A strong submission wrestling base is what allows you to decide where the fight takes place. Whether you’re defending a takedown, finishing one of your own, or scrambling back to your feet, wrestling often determines who controls the fight.
Our Wrestling for MMA class focuses on:
🥋 Takedowns and takedown defense
đź’Ą Chain wrestling and transitions
🔄 Countering shots and winning scrambles
🦵 Controlling opponents after the takedown
đź”’ Flowing directly into submissions and dominant positions for Jiu-Jitsu and MMA
Unlike traditional wrestling, our focus is on techniques that transfer directly to mixed martial arts—helping athletes blend striking, wrestling, and submissions into one complete game.
It’s one of the most unique classes we offer, but it’s also one of the most important for anyone serious about stepping into the cage.
Control where the fight happens. Control the fight.

Cool to share Muay Thai lineage from my time at Sangtiennoi Gym in Thailand and have the opportunity to learn from you again 26 years later at Progressive Fighting Academy.
From training under legends in Thailand to welcoming one of the sport’s true icons to our gym, it’s been an incredible journey.
