CES hosted a beautiful assembly on Friday to support Truth and Reconciliation. Elder Charlie Fox brought wisdom and storytelling and Knowledge-keeper Sheldon Day Chief offered lessons through song and drumming. Charlie's main message of supporting education as a means of preserving culture and building mutual cooperation between indigenous and non-indigenous people was positive and powerful. Sheldon's message of working together as humans and sharing compassion is a message that we need in today's world given many larger events.

Our students did an amazing job of respectfully leading our assembly and they also took a pledge to honour the Calls to Action through empathy, education and understanding.

I am most proud of the work we have done at CES when we see how proud our Blackfoot children are to share their culture with others. There was a time when this was not necessarily the case. Our Blackfoot children proudly speak of their culture and identity and we are proud of them. We are also proud of our entire student body for their engagement and compassion.

I want to thank Ms Wright for putting this assembly together and thank our guests, Elder Charlie Fox and Sheldon Day Chief. You both have a home at CES.

We ask folks to take some time in the next week to reflect on the Calls to Action as we move towards a process of reconciliation.

I want to thank Mr Saad and Mrs McIntyre for planning this year's Terry Fox Run. This year's run raised awareness for cancer research and Terry's efforts. Our students raised $1157! The community stepped up once again.

I also want to thank Mrs Claypool and the grade 10 PE class for their help and a GIANT thank you to the Town of Coalhurst who provided a bunch of barricades, personnel, and even brought in a bylaw officer from out of town to help to keep our kids safe.

I will mention that we still had one small incident with a driver exiting an alley at an excessive speed and continue to emphasize to folks to slow down during the run or otherwise. It is never worth the consequences.

I want to thank Mr Tom Hamer, Palliser Superintendent, for participating in our walk this year.

It is always great to get our two wonderful schools together (CES and Coalhurst High School) with events for a great cause.

Not that we are counting but for bragging rights Mr Barwegen, CHS math teacher and World Cup official, led the runners and Mr Mac pulled up the rear at the end of the walkers this year!

Hello CES community,
Due to the recent rains our field is still in no shape to host 400 sets of legs in the colour run. We have made the decision to postpone the colour portion of the run until the spring and instead we will run our more traditional run/walk on September 24. If you signed up to volunteer for the colour run we no longer need you to throw colour but would love to have you back in the spring! If you still wish to join us for the Terry Fox Run we can always use more adults on the route.

PAL is Turning the Page! Join the PAL Committee and Help Us Bring Literacy to Life!

We are looking for passionate members to join our newly formed Partnership Association to Literacy (PAL) committee at Coalhurst Elementary!

Our goal is simple: to make reading, writing, and speaking joyful for every student. Whether you’re a parent, community member, or local leader, you can help us foster connections that truly make a difference in our classrooms.

What is PAL?

We operate on a project-based model where unique partnerships - ranging from student leaders and senior mentors to parent volunteers and even "furry friends" - come together to support student success.

Why join us?
1. Make an Impact: Help shape a framework that brings excitement and curriculum-relevant literacy programming to our school.
2. Collaborate: Work with a dedicated team to support innovative projects that help every reader grow.
3. Build Community: Create lasting partnerships that strengthen our school culture.
Interested in sharing the joy of reading? We want to hear from you! Please reach out to Mr Mac via email to learn more about how you can get involved!

PS - Committee meetings are held at 3:45 pm, just several times during the school year.

Make a Difference at Coalhurst Elementary!

Are you someone who enjoys working with children, building relationships, and making a positive difference in a child’s day?

Coalhurst Elementary is looking for Casual Educational Assistants to join our school team!

As a casual EA, you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside teachers and students, support learning and inclusion, build meaningful relationships, and help create a positive school experience for our students. Every day can be a little different and every day gives you a chance to make an impact.

You don’t need to be a career educator to be a great EA. If you are patient, caring, dependable, flexible, and enjoy working with kids, we’d love to hear from you.

If this sounds like you, check out the Palliser Regional Schools employment opportunities and apply to become a casual Educational Assistant.

The CES School Council met tonight. We discussed many topics. We heard from our Board Chair Tony who provided the Board Report. Mr McIntyre discussed staggered entry, the need for recruitment with our School Council, and special events such as the upcoming Truth and Reconciliation Assembly on September 25th and the Terry Fox Run. Mrs Gaskell was on hand to discuss exciting news that the Paws and Pages program will be back.

The Town of Coalhurst was on hand to report on the new recycling program and the upcoming by-election.

CES does need some new folks on their council. Most of the members are in their final year and so we will have a lot of turnover next year. If we want the many amazing things to continue we need some folks to come out for our October meeting.

Chairperson Jamie gave her annual report and wow was this a celebration to be proud of. Our council is incredible!

In our elections Jamie was nominated as Chair and both Kelly and Calen were nominated as Co-Vice-Chairs. Megan is once again our Secretary. Melissa has joined as a voting member. Skyler is staying on with the council as well. We can use more members!

Highway clean-up will be discontinued this year as it no longer makes sense as a fundraiser for the school council.

Santa's Gone Loonie will need some new leadership if it is to fly this year. We want to thank Seana who did this task tirelessly for many years. It is a great event for the students but it is time for new leadership. If you are interested please let the council members know. The event will not happen this year unless an individual or team steps up to make it work.

Our Friends of CES Society also met. Steph was once again nominated as President. Megan has retained the Secretary role. Skyler will serve as Vice President. Calen has taken the important job as Treasurer. Kelly, Melissa and Jamie will serve as a Member at Large.

We hope to see a number of new members next month! Stay tuned for details.
