We’re accepting applications for our Indigenous Artist(s) in Residence program until August 31! 🎨

The Indigenous Artist(s) in Residence program offers artists paid residencies, studio space and access to campus resources, all while staying connected to community, family and land!

Generously supported by TD Bank Group (TD) artists will create new work, mentor students, lead workshops and artist talks and share their work through exhibitions and performances.

Alberta supports more than 86,000 arts-based jobs. 💪

Alberta’s arts and culture sector contributes $12 billion in GDP annually, bringing significant economic impacts to our economy.

There are more than 18,100 artists living in Alberta, representing 9% of all artists in Canada!

Many of these artists have received their education from the Faculty of Fine Arts at ULethbridge, highlighting our programs as impactful, rewarding and essential in the training of artists.

The arts and culture sectors support more jobs and contribute more to Canada’s economy than some of Canada’s largest sectors — combined!

When looking at the number of jobs per $1 million in output, arts & entertainment supports more jobs than the trades, construction, and agriculture and oil and gas combined.

Congratulations to Dr. Heather Davis-Fisch (Drama) on receiving an Insight Grant of $413,116 from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council! 👏🎭

Heather's project addresses the problem of English-Canadian theatre historiography's reliance on textual analysis, scripts and print documents, which has marginalized historically significant practices, particularly from underrepresented communities.

Her research team will partner with galleries, archives and museums to explore how alternate performance histories emerge from the analysis of archival objects and materials.

Did you know? Arts and culture sectors contribute more than $131 billion to the Canadian economy every year and supports 1.1 million jobs across the country!

The arts are outpacing economic growth in several other key sectors, including oil and gas, trade, construction and manufacturing.

These fields also strongly support government revenue, generating $17 billion in tax revenue annually.

Congratulations to Dr. Monique Giroux (Music) on receiving an Insight Development Grant of $34,275 from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council! 👏🎶

Monique is examining intergenerational music teaching and learning through an in-depth qualitative case study of the Kenosee Lake Kitchen Party and Fiddle Camp (KLKP), an intentionally intergenerational, community-centred fiddle camp in Saskatchewan.

The central research question asks how intergenerational teaching and learning are enacted at KLKP, and how these practices may support both continued musical engagement and the care and continuity of traditions.
