Visiting Artist Workshop! Create botanical and garden forms with clay!
Artist Chiao-Chih Lu of Taiwan is visiting Lethbridge and bringing their organic handbuilding technique to a special two-day workshop at Casa. Day 1 focuses on Structural Strength, such as rock formations, tree trunks, and branches. Day 2 looks at Delicate Form with small, fragile elements like flowers and leaves. Register for 1 day or both and build plant-forms that will not die. Suitable for all skill levels.
Chiao-Chih Lu is a ceramic artist based in Taiwan whose work explores material, memory, and the relationship between natural forms and human experience. Her practice often centers on the dialogue between black clay and white porcelain, using their contrasting qualities to reflect ideas of transformation, balance, and impermanence. Black clay functions as a dense, grounding material, while porcelain carries a sense of lightness and fragility, allowing subtle gestures and traces of touch to remain visible.
Lu holds a BFA from ArtCenter College of Design in California and has participated in international artist residencies at Medalta Historic Clay District in Canada, the European Ceramic Work Centre (EKWC) in the Netherlands, and Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Japan. Her work has been presented in solo exhibitions at the Yingge Ceramics Museum in Taiwan and has been exhibited internationally.
