Every year, on September 30, ULethbridge recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It is a day to honour residential school survivors, their families and the children who never made it home. Orange Shirt Day reminds us that “Every Child Matters” and to engage in conversation and come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.
At Iniskim (University of Lethbridge), we commit to moving forward in a good way and to respond meaningfully to the TRC 94 Calls to Action. Education is how we answer that call.
Indigenous knowledge, culture, tradition and worldviews have always been foundational to ULethbridge since we became a university in 1967. As a university community, we strive to advance meaningful truth and reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians.
Reconciliation is not a single gesture, action or statement. It’s a continuous process and truth and reconciliation is about working toward solidarity. This is a shared responsibility and an ongoing journey for each and every one of us.
