Would you let a child ride a bike without training wheels on day one? Then why are we skipping the transition in pointe work? Before dancers go full pointe, there's a crucial in-between step: modifying the shoe to remove the shank while keeping the structure. It gives students the chance to feel the weight, the ribbon, the resistance—without the risk. Tendus feel completely different in pointe shoes vs flat shoes. Presenting the foot requires more engagement. Every inch of the foot starts to work harder. It’s not a shortcut. It’s smart, strategic training.
