This year our grade 8s participated in the Langley Volunteer Bureau's "Cards for Seniors" program.
We wanted our grade 8s to first experience getting a meaningful card, so the first step was getting our grade 8 teachers together and have them fill out cards for our grade 8s. The goal was for each teacher to find students that they had a relationship with so that the card would be meaningful to the student.
The next step was bringing the grade 8s together for an assembly. When they found their seat, the card was there waiting for them. During the assembly we had a number of former Brookswood grads come and speak to the grade 8s about how they gave back to the community and tried to make Brookswood a better place while they were here.
The final step took place the following week the grade 8 English teachers helped the student do the artwork and personal message on a card that would be delivered to a Langley senior.
The whole project was amazing and definitely made a difference to our local seniors!

Our grads decided the last day of their time at Brookswood was a day to party, and every good party needs balloons! So they all showed up early in the morning with garbage bags filled with balloons which they used to fill the main staircase.
Congratulations to the Class of 2025. We will miss you!

Congratulations to Carmen Wright who is retiring this year after working at Brookswood since 2005 as an Educational Assistant. Carmen worked in classrooms and resource rooms helping students along their educational journey. Her kind and friendly personality helped her connect with students who quickly saw that Carmen was someone who cared about them and their success.
All the best to Carmen in her future. We will miss her at Brookswood!

On September 24, Profesional Wrester Chris Gray (known as Cody Deaner) came and spoke to our grade 8s. The "Phones Down, Heads Up" talk was focused on reducing your screen time to improve your mental health and enjoy the world around you. He also encouraged them to focus on a goal and told them how to have success in reaching it. An excellent message!
