Exciting news for families wanting to keep their kiddos rear facing longer but with compact vehicles!

When first released, the Extend2Fit required the foot panel extended once the child reached 22 lb, which made the seat too large front-to-back for some vehicles.

Graco Canada has completed testing on the seat for all weights WITHOUT the foot panel extended and has now removed this weight-based requirement. (Note that this has always been the case in the USA, but our testing processes are different.)

This means this seat is now a compact option for rear-facing to 50 lb / 49”

If you can fit the seat safely in your vehicle with the foot panel, absolutely continue with this feature as it gives the child lots of extra leg room.

The change applies to ALL Extend2Fits bought in Canada since product launch (it’s retroactive) but does not currently include the Platinum version.

Note that in the increasingly rare scenario that you are installing using a vehicle LAP-ONLY belt (found in some older vehicles), then the seat MUST have the foot panel extended to position 4/recline 2.

Car Seat Tech (CPST) Training Course

—— This is the last training course of 2019 in the Lower Mainland ——

When: September 30, October 1, & 2, 2019
Location: North Vancouver
Cost per participant: $250 + GST

Attendance is required for both the classroom and clinic portion, though there may be alternate arrangements possible for the clinic. Most students find they need a certain degree of physical dexterity to do this work, though skilled technicians are able to coach parents without ever touching a seat.

Nursing, non-mobile infants are welcome in the classroom portion of the course.

This course is suitable for:

• emergency services personnel
• nurses, midwives, and doulas
• family support workers
• baby and child retailers
• child care providers
• community volunteers
• parents

Many who take this course find rewarding volunteer opportunities in their community helping parents and caregivers. Some even earn tips!

Successful completion of the course comes with a 3-year certification with the Child Passenger Safety Association of Canada and 3 years of insurance when working as a volunteer (either with other CPSAC volunteers, with another organization, or when volunteering independently). You will receive your course manual and a supply of triplicate check forms.

I had to phone 911 earlier to report an unrestrained child of approx. 3/4 years old today. The child was standing up between the front seats having a full conversation with the driver. It was scary to observe and very nerve wrecking.

The vehicle was pulled over and ticketed for an improperly/unrestrained minor. Thank you Richmond RCMP for being active an involved on these types of calls. I appreciate all that you do to in keeping children safe in cars and everything else done in the day to day.

If you see a child unrestrained in vehicle, do not hesitate to call it in and report it. If the vehicle is currently travelling then call 911, if it is after the fact such as you observed them park, then call it into non emergency. Dispatch will need vehicle description, licence plate.

It is always fantastic giving credit where it is due. This man was responsible for one of our leading safety features in vehicles. The 3-point seatbelt.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that buckling up with a Bohlin belt reduces a person’s risk of dying in a car crash by almost 50 percent.

He and Volvo put the safety of others above all else and gave other vehicle manufacturers the design for free.

Way to go!

We hear this concern often! Feet or legs off the edge of an infant or rearfacing convertible seat is not a consideration or safety concern at all. Instead, we must consider when the child meets the height OR weight maximums OR another measurement the manufacturer species such as the 1-1.5" rule for space required above the child's head. Rear face to the max of whichever your child hits first!

your child’s feet hanging over the end of the car seat is NOT an indicator to move them up a seat. The weight and height of a child are the deciding factors.
