My name is Loretta Braun and I am thrilled to have been, and continue to teach piano and theory education for over 30 years. I have been extremely priviledged to have the opportunity to work with people's most precious gift, which is their children!! I began teaching over 30 years ago after receiving my Associateship from the Royal Conservatory of piano followed by 3 years of Jazz/pop/rock studies. I am a BC Registered Music Teacher, as well as a Canadian Registered Music Teacher and Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto. My love of all genre's has been an amazing asset in my studio. Children are all very unique both in personalities, interests, and musical styles. Nothing is more fun that to watch a child Rock Out to their favorite pop song, or try to emulate Beethoven while playing Fur Elise. I believe ALL music has value and is an education and my job is to nurture the child's love of it. I also believe that lessons are not a 'one size fits all' in terms of lesson materials and books. Different children have different learning styles and there are many many courses, books, pieces for educating. Rather than have a student purchase one or two method books, I have approximately 2000 books in my piano library and I use these as a sharing library. Again, these books are from every genre so as to give the student the best opportunity to hone their skills and become a well rounded player. Lastly, I believe that the lesson time should be a fun, happy experience for the student rather than the dryness of the past. I truly love working with kids and love nothing better than to ask how the hockey game went, how did school go and other details that are so very important to children and develops a friendship between teacher and student. There are also rewards and prizes as well as musical games which add to the fun. I would also like to mention that I have taught many many children with special needs of different varieties. I have great experience teaching children suffering from anxiety, ADHD, autism and many more. There IS ALWAYS a place for your child and I strive to make it a safe, happy place and something they look forward to each week.
