Lodestar Educational Consulting is owned and operated by Ira Alexandra as a sole proprietorship. Additional services are contracted out to experts within the required field. Lodestar provides schools with Sustainability Education Programs that can be taught as a whole to multiple grades, or that are divisible into modules. The programs teach the British Columbian curriculum through a sustainability lens. Lodestar also provides museums with Educational Kits tailored to their artifacts and their needs. Lodestar EC creates its own kits that are either rented to teachers fro 3-6 weeks or taught in one to two day 6 hour workshops. Finally, Lodestar EC provides small business owners with Critical Thinking workshops, either in house, or through 5 two hour workshops help in the evenings. Lodestar imparts its educational programs through the following three steps:

1) Providing Professional Development that will develop:
a) Knowledge of the underlying causes of unsustainable practices in order to understand and empower students to contribute to the social, environmental, and economic well-being that requires redesigning many systems that currently exist in Canadian society.

b) Values that impart a concern for the present and the future welfare of our planet and all the life that it sustains.

2) Provide teaching materials including Unit Plans that teach the curriculum with a sustainability focus, and experiential learning facilities that would serve for field trip and field-work learning centres.

3) Get the community involved in sustainable initiatives and the students involved within their communities.

Lodestar’s approach is unique in that it works directly with administration and the teachers, providing professional development, and facilitating the implementation of program modules. Lodestar EC helps students develop community projects which not only establishes the longevity of the program, but also develops the following skills that are not traditionally taught in the school curriculum but are essential life skills: financial literacy, marketing, active project implementation that involves public speaking and establishing relationships within the community, research that is crucial in order to implement actual results, and the development of values by taking responsibility for positive change.
