Basic or Advanced certification?

This is one of the first questions future drone pilots in Canada need to answer.

A simple way to think about it:

Basic certification may suit lower-risk operations that stay within its operating limits.

Advanced certification opens the door to more operational flexibility, but it also comes with higher expectations for knowledge and practical readiness.

The right path depends on what kind of flying you want to do.

If your long-term goal includes commercial work, inspections, urban operations, or higher-level opportunities, it is worth understanding the Advanced path early.
