One of the greatest things about moving to a place with real winters is the abundance of adorable kitty tracks everywhere in town.

I realized the other day I never posted the photos promised of the vest repair!

First is the before photo. Pretty extensive damage done to the bottom edge of the vest, with both side seams pretty much done for. Also the zipper was half off and very broken, so that was removed (client didn't want it replaced).

Using darning and nalbinding to fix the giant holes as shown in the first photos (which involved cutting a big piece out, scary!) And then crochet to bind and protect the lower edge. Finally a bit of reinforcing at the armpits and lower seam corners, then the side seams sewed back up.

The fellow was a mechanic, so, no kidding, it took two full wool washes with 5 rinses after each wash to get all the dirt out. It was noticeably lighter once washed!! 🤣🤣

A happy customer in the end.

I finished this beauty of a sweater a few weeks ago, but have been busy hustling my other goods for orders before the holidays so haven't yet had a chance to share.

It's hard to see the colours on camera; the "brown" is actually a beautiful variegated purplish/blue/brown/green yarn from Briggs & Little called Brown Heather, which has become a favourite of mine. If you have seen me wearing a similar vest to this in person, it's that yarn.

This 100% wool, handmade, CFW designed sweater will be going up in my shop as soon as I'm able, for $400. It fits as about a medium, around 36-38" chest/bust, though with wool there is some stretch (and the wool will relax with wear too).

I was asked to repair an old beloved vest the other week that was in pretty rough shape. Client didn't care about aesthetics as it is usually worn under his mechanic coveralls.
While I'm still not 100% sure what I did (totally made it up as I went along), it came together pretty good. My intermediate nalbinding and novice darning skills came to the rescue. With some sewn in reinforcement threads I was able to find enough anchor points to put in a patch after cutting out a barely there section.
More photos to follow.

So brief and fleeting the leaf turn and fall is here. P**f! Good incentive to get out and enjoy it before the snow and cold comes.

Deer are a regular feature in town (everyone's cedar bush and garden can attest to that).

This doe startled me on a walk back from a friend's house. She was resting in the shade just cool as a cucumber until I stopped and fumbled for my camera.

A few weeks later a young buck and I blocked each other's path on a sidewalk in another part of town. The day before that two bucks walked by the house we were working.

Guess they were getting in their chill time before hunting season opened 🤣.

This day was a reminder that I need to accept my ever evolving limitations. That's it's ok to admit I can't do something and I need to turn around and come back another day.

In the village that I live in in the interior of BC there is an absolute overabundance of lilac bushes flowering like crazy! The deer don't seem to like them much so they prosper in the village. I had a desire to teach myself about what can be done with them, these are 4 things I found while perusing resources.

I was getting excited to be at the first market at Hunnie's tomorrow, however unfortunately this week life said "nay! it shall not happen!". And so, I will be taking at least a week or two to look after some personal matters.

Hope to see you all for sure at the May 22 market, we'll see how things go. Feel free to contact me in the meantime if you have any questions! (Some folks have been asking about sewing, crochet or nalbinding lessons. I'm very into it and will work on making it happen this spring/summer :)
