Despite the AI generated picture, the information here is essential for parents. HOW to practice, what to FOCUS on, are very different from what you might assume.
Consistency
Slow Down
Break Down (into chunks)
Hands Seperately
Use Your Voice (sing, count)
Practice is not a Performance - there will be mistakes
Praise the Process -not the result
Create a Routine instead of waiting for Motivation
Parents are ad Important Part of the Result
Your child's teacher might see them for 30 minutes once a week.
What happens during the other 167½ hours of that week matters enormously.
The teacher provides the knowledge, direction, correction and next steps.
The student has to do the learning.
And particularly when children are young, the parent creates the environment that allows that learning to happen.
Great musicians aren't created by endlessly playing pieces from beginning to end.
They develop through consistent, deliberate and accurate practice.
Slow it down.
Separate the hands.
Break it into sections.
USE THE VOICE.
Listen carefully.
Correct mistakes.
Repeat the correct version.
Practise consistently.
Do those things week after week and you aren't simply teaching a child how to play today's piece.
You're teaching them how to learn music
