Sloane is a Grade 6 student from Innisfail, Alberta. Her design showcases a tree, a heart, and children. The tree to represent nature and the heart to symbolize that every child matters and is equally important. The children in the design are holding feathers as an Indigenous representation; however, she drew them without faces so that they have no expression and can represent any child.

To Sloan, Orange Shirt Day supports Indigenous children and reminds others that all children matter. It is a reminder of Phyllis’s story, how as an Indigenous child she had her shirt taken away and her hair cut so that she looked like everyone else.

🧡Reminder, all classes are cancelled for Wednesday, September 30th to allow space for reflection, conversation and action.🧡

📣NEW FACULTY ANNOUNCEMENT!📣

Please welcome, Liz to our Apex West family!💚

Liz is originally from Windsor, Ontario where she was immersed in dance form from a very young age. Her grandmother was the owner of Nancy Pattison Dance World for over 65 years, making the studio her second home. She began assisting classes at a young age before stepping into a teaching role at just 16 years old.

Throughout high school, she was a member of the competitive dance team while also performing in a variety of community musical theatre productions. It was during these years that she discovered her passion for teaching, coaching, and mentoring young dancers. After graduating high school, she returned to teach and coach the competitive team while earning her degree in Child Psychology.

In October 2021, she moved to Victoria, where she has taught at several local studios while working full-time as an OSC and Summer Camp Supervisor. Although she has loved continuing to work with children, her passion for dance and musical theatre has remained at the heart of everything she does.

Most recently, she fulfilled a lifelong dream by serving as the lead choreographer for the VOS production of White Christmas. Through that experience, she met Chelsea, Ben, and the Apex West faculty, making the opportunity to join the team feel like the perfect fit.

She is thrilled to be returning to the studio this season and looks forward to sharing her passion for dance, creativity, and performance while helping every student grow in confidence, skill, and love for the arts.✨
