Sometimes first words aren’t single words, they’re common phrases.

A lot of parents don’t realize their child is using a phrase because they’re still waiting for more single words. They think, “There’s no way they’re saying a whole phrase yet.”
But phrases like:
• “Here we go!”
• “Let’s go!”
• “Oh no!”
• “I did it!”
are often some of the first meaningful things toddlers say.

So keep your ears open for those little phrases during everyday routines. When you hear them, repeat them, respond to them, and use them throughout the day.
