Every year, I bring fresh-cut sunflowers to the table and invite the children to paint. And every year, I get such a wonderful variety of artwork—some children paint the sunflowers they see, while others take their ideas in a completely different direction. And that’s absolutely okay! 🎨🌻

This year, I decided to kick it up a notch.

We began by reading Camille and the Sunflowers, a beautiful story about Vincent van Gogh. We talked about artists, their paintings, and how they notice and interpret the world around them.

I then introduced the materials I had prepared, along with a variety of colour palettes. We looked closely at the sunflowers in the vase and talked about the colors we could see, then considered how we might use those colors to recreate what we were seeing on our own pages.

And, as always, the children did not disappoint. Their paintings were all so wonderfully unique, thoughtful, and full of their own ideas. 🌻🎨

I’m so excited (and a little bit proud!) to finally hold the published copy of ‘Where Wonderment Takes Root: Provocations Inspired by the Natural World — A Resource for Early Childhood Educators’ by Beverlie Dietze, with photography by Angela Roy. 🌿❤️

Being part of this project has been such a special experience. I had the opportunity to work alongside Beverlie, creating and exploring provocations, photographing them, and most importantly, experiencing them alongside the children.

Provocations have been a meaningful part of my practice for many years. I love starting with something that sparks children’s curiosity and then wondering, Where might this take them? What else might they discover? It’s about building on their interests while leaving room for new ideas, connections and possibilities to emerge.

Beverlie has beautifully brought this way of thinking to life in the book, sharing provocations alongside educator wonderments, possibilities for extension, reflection, and the learning that can unfold.

I’m truly grateful to have been part of this project and to see the children’s experiences captured within its pages. It feels pretty special. ❤️

For as long as I can remember, the children at Serendipity have been visited by the Glitter Fairy. 🧚✨

She leaves a little note in a bottle at her door, offering clues that invite the children to explore, wonder, and search for a special treasure hidden somewhere in the yard 🍂

What I love most is watching the children take this experience and make it their own. They search, imagine, share their discoveries, and often leave little notes of their own, creating a beautiful back-and-forth connection with their magical visitor. 💕

This year, we continued the tradition while celebrating the International Fairy Tea Party International Fairy Tea Party, joining children around the world in a celebration of imagination, wonder, and play. 🧚🫖✨

I believe this is our fourth or fifth year celebrating alongside the International Fairy Tea Party and the magic continues! ✨🧚✨

It’s not perfect. It’s a little crooked, the stain isn’t quite as I imagined, and there may be a bit of wobble here and there… but I made it! ❤️

I had two small picnic tables that simply couldn’t keep up with the weather and the wonderfully enthusiastic use of children. Rather than letting them go to waste, I took them apart and gave the materials a new purpose, a mud kitchen! 🌿🪵

I still need to find a second-hand tap to finish it off, but for now, it’s ready for whatever the children imagine.

A kitchen? A café? A potion-making station? A place to mix, pour, measure, create and collaborate? Who knows where their ideas will take it.

The best part is that I only spent $5 on screws and $5 on utensils. Everything else has been repurposed.

There’s something I really value about creating environments from what we already have. Materials don’t need to be new or perfect to be meaningful.

Sometimes a weathered piece of wood, an old table and a few loose parts can become the starting point for something much bigger, children’s ideas, imagination, problem-solving and shared discoveries.

And sometimes the best things don’t need to be perfect, they just need to be made with intention and given a second life. 🌱

I’m opening up a few remaining spaces for families who are looking for a small, nurturing program where children have the time and freedom to simply be children.

Serendipity is a licensed group care program that has the feel of a preschool, but with longer hours during the day. My goal has always been to create a space where children feel a strong sense of belonging, build meaningful relationships, and have lots of time to play, explore, get outside, follow their interests and learn in ways that feel natural to them.

With a maximum of 8 children each day, I’m able to truly get to know each child and create a program that is responsive to the children who are here.

🌱 Play-responsive & child-led
🌿 Lots of outdoor time, nature & gardening
🤍 Small group size with lots of individual attention
✨ A warm, welcoming environment where children can grow at their own pace

Spaces are available Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays.
Children must be 3 years old at the time of enrollment.
