Luck in making desirable discoveries by accident
I believe that children, above all else, need to feel safe and secure in their environment before they can learn and grow and make discoveries. Serendipity Early Years Centre is a licensed group care program for children ages 30 months to school age in Lake Country BC. Serendipity is a child-centered and play-responsive early years program where th

🌿 A few spaces are still available at Serendipity for the 2026/2027 school year. 🌿

I’m opening up a few remaining spaces for families who are looking for a small, nurturing program where children have the time and freedom to simply be children.

Serendipity is a licensed group care program that has the feel of a preschool, but with longer hours during the day. My goal has always been to create a space where children feel a strong sense of belonging, build meaningful relationships, and have lots of time to play, explore, get outside, follow their interests and learn in ways that feel natural to them.

With a maximum of 8 children each day, I’m able to truly get to know each child and create a program that is responsive to the children who are here.

🌱 Play-responsive & child-led
🌿 Lots of outdoor time, nature & gardening
🤍 Small group size with lots of individual attention
✨ A warm, welcoming environment where children can grow at their own pace

Spaces are available Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays.
Children must be 3 years old at the time of enrollment.

⭐️ Affordable Child Care Benefit Accepted
⭐️ CCFRI (Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative)

There are only a few spaces left, so if you’ve been thinking about Serendipity for your child, I’d love to connect with you and show you around.

Soooooo amazing 🤩

I came across this idea on Instagram and knew it would be a wonderful art experience for the children.

I started by taking a photo of each child in a pose they chose themselves. After printing the photos, I slipped them into page protectors so the children could trace their faces and bodies with a Sharpie. I then copied those outlines onto paper (next time I’ll definitely use thicker paper!).

The following day, we began painting with watercolours. We started by exploring skin tones, using a colour swatch I created from our skin-tone watercolour palette. The children carefully compared the swatches to their own skin, even testing the colours on their arms to find the closest match. It sparked meaningful conversations about how every person’s skin tone is unique (one child even reminded us they weren’t voice tones 🤣).

Once the skin had dried, the children added color for their eyes, mouths, hair, and clothing. For hair, we used Crayola skin-tone markers because they offered such a beautiful range of natural shades.

This project was a joy from beginning to end. Every child was engaged, patient, and eager to participate. Our group ranged in age from 2½ to 6 years old, and it also opened up thoughtful conversations about how everyone draws differently. We talked about how our artwork reflects our unique ideas, experiences, abilities, and stages of development—and that every portrait was perfect because it was authentically their own. ❤️

These are two of the three felted play mats I won from scholars choice. The kiddos have been enjoying the set up! It was fairies and gnomes last week, next week is still in the works 💫

In her article “Play” Is Not a Four-Letter Word!, Rae Pica writes:
“Children! These are creatures born to play (just as kittens and puppies are born to play), but because they’re so busy being scheduled and supervised and “schooled”... children are losing the knack to do what should come naturally to them. Can you imagine trying to keep kittens and puppies from frolicking, when that is so clearly what nature intended?” And squirrels too!
