We are so pleased to share the announcement of our new Assistant Principal ~ Chantele Broderson! 🤍

Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Chantele Broderson as Assistant Principal of École James S. McCormick School (ÉJSMS), commencing for 2026/2027

Broderson is a proud product of WCPS, having been both a student and educator within the division. Over the past four years, she has served as acting administrator at ÉJSMS, where she has earned the respect of students, staff, and families through her approachable leadership style, strong work ethic, and commitment to supporting others.

“Chantele is a compassionate and dedicated leader who has already made a significant impact within the ÉJSMS community,” said Sonja Dykslag, Assistant Superintendent of People Services. “Her commitment to growth, learning, and building positive relationships makes her an excellent fit for this role.”

Broderson is currently completing the division’s Aspiring Leaders Program and has demonstrated a strong commitment to professional learning and leadership development throughout her career.

Outside of education, Broderson is also a highly accomplished athlete, having earned a bronze medal at the 2017 World Junior Curling Championship.

“I am honoured to continue serving the ÉJSMS community in this new role,” said Broderson. “This school has been an important part of my life, and I look forward to continuing to support our students, staff, and families in a positive and caring learning environment.”

Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Kacey Oehlerking as Principal of École James S. McCormick School (ÉJSMS).

Oehlerking has served as Assistant Principal at ÉJSMS for the past two years, where she has demonstrated strong instructional leadership and a commitment to building relational trust and a positive school culture. During her tenure, she has supported the strengthening of instructional practices, including the implementation of the Décode Reading Assessment and the development of a Numeracy Continuum of Supports.

“Kacey is a thoughtful and student-centered leader who is deeply committed to both learning and well-being,” said Sonja Dykslag, Assistant Superintendent of People Services. “Her work in strengthening literacy and numeracy practices, along with her focus on building strong relationships, has had a meaningful impact at École James S. McCormick School. We are confident she will continue to lead the school forward in a positive and collaborative way.”

Oehlerking brings a broad range of leadership experience within WCPS, including roles as Education Services PUF Coordinator and Colony Supervisor (2023–2024), Education Services Coordinator and Language & Literacy Lead (2012–2023), Bright Futures Play Academy Coordinator (2016–2022), and Division Early Years Strategic Cohorts Lead (2014–2016).

She holds a Master of Science in Education in Instructional Pedagogy from Wilkes University, as well as a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Music from the University of Lethbridge. Oehlerking is also a recognized presenter on nurturing executive functioning and is committed to inclusive education and staff wellness.

“I am honoured to take on the role of Principal at École James S. McCormick School,” said Oehlerking. “This is a special school community, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside our staff, students, and families to support learning, well-being, and success for every student.”

Oehlerking assumes the role as current Principal Melissa Rogers transitions to central office as Director of People Services.

Our Grade 1s celebrated the "100th Day of School" by setting out to collect 100 items for the Lacombe Food Bank! They exceeded their goal and have gathered a whopping 185 items to donate! Well done, Grade 1s! 🙂

Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) is pleased to announce that Melissa Rogers has been appointed Director of People Services.

Rogers currently serves as Principal of J.S. McCormick School in Lacombe and brings more than two decades of experience in education to the role. She began her teaching career in 2001 in Lethbridge as a physical education specialist, before continuing her work in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Rogers returned to central Alberta in 2012, where she joined École James S. McCormick School and has since served in several leadership roles, most recently as Assistant Principal and Principal.

Throughout her career, Rogers has been deeply committed to supporting the well-being and growth of students and staff. She has also served as the school’s Wellness Champion and has been an active member of the WCPS Wellness CORE team.

“Melissa is a thoughtful leader who is deeply committed to supporting others,” said Superintendent Tim De Ruyck. “Her experience as a school leader, combined with her passion for staff wellness and professional growth, will be a strong asset to our People Services team. Melissa understands that when we invest in our staff, we create the conditions for students to succeed.”

Rogers holds a combined Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge with a major in Kinesiology. She is currently completing her Master of Education in Indigenous Education through the University of British Columbia, which she expects to finish within the next four months.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve Wolf Creek Public Schools in this new role,” said Rogers. “Supporting staff so they can grow, thrive, and feel valued is essential. I look forward to working with colleagues across the division to continue building strong, supportive workplaces for everyone in WCPS.”

Rogers will commence her new role with WCPS this summer.
