Meet Our Keynote Speaker

Marlene Orr, Chief Executive Officer of Native Counselling Services of Alberta, will join us at the JUST Paths Symposium to present Community Led Justice in Practice.

Drawing on her extensive experience within the justice and correctional systems, Marlene will explore how Indigenous led, community driven approaches are changing the experience of justice. Through a short screening of The Wellness Path: Edmonton Indigenous Court, participants will see how Indigenous courts can create a different experience by placing dignity, wellness, culture, and community support at the centre of the process.

Marlene will also explore what it means to move beyond punishment toward individual driven wellness plans, how culture and ceremony are built into the process, and what accountability and meaningful change can look like in practice.

Meet Our Opening Keynote Speaker

The Honourable Justice Ivan M.L. Ladouceur will open the JUST Paths Symposium with Relational Justice in Practice.

Drawing on his experience with the St. Paul Healing to Wellness Court, he will explore how relational approaches are reshaping the formal justice system through trust, community involvement, and collaboration. Participants will gain insight into how these approaches are helping reduce barriers and create more meaningful pathways through the court process.

As the symposium's opening keynote, this session begins our exploration of what justice can look like when relationships lead. Throughout the day, participants will build on this conversation by examining Indigenous led justice, the realities people face navigating systems, and how a human rights lens can strengthen access to justice.
