Alberta has one of the most diverse public safety landscapes in the country.

From municipal police services and the RCMP to Community Peace Officers, Bylaw Enforcement Officers, Transit Peace Officers, AHS, Alberta Sheriffs, Conservation Officers, Fish and Wildlife Officers and First Nations police services — there are a lot of professionals working every day to serve Alberta communities.

They don’t all do the same job.

And that’s exactly the point.

Different mandates and areas of expertise allow agencies to fill different roles and work together when their responsibilities intersect.

At ALETC, we get to see that collaboration firsthand. Our training brings together professionals from different agencies and backgrounds, creating opportunities to learn from one another and build relationships that extend beyond the classroom.

Public safety is bigger than any one badge, uniform or agency.

CPOIP 11 | Week 1 Recap

One week down. Eleven to go.

CPOIP 11 came out of the gate with a busy first week at ALETC. The cadets completed their initial PARE testing, were introduced to their first drill class and physical training sessions, and began their classroom training in law, note taking and strategic communications.

That’s a lot to take in during one week and for many, it’s a pretty big change from what they’re used to.
But they showed up, put in the work and, most importantly, made it through Week 1.

The foundation is being built. Now the real work begins.

🚔 Raising the Standard for EVOC Training.

Two ALETC instructors recently travelled to Michigan State Police to complete their EVOC Instructor Course, recognized as some of the most elite emergency vehicle operations training in North America.

This training allows ALETC to bring that same high level of instruction right here to Alberta and across Canada, giving law enforcement agencies greater access to EVOC training without having to travel south of the border.

Welcome, CPOIP 11!

Today marks the first day of training for the newest group of Community Peace Officer recruits at ALETC.
Over the next 12 weeks, CPOIP 11 will develop their skills, face testing and evaluations, and take part in reality-based scenario training as they work toward becoming Alberta’s newest Peace Officers.
There will be plenty of challenges along the way, but also plenty of opportunities to learn, grow and build the skills needed for the job.

We’re excited to have you here and wish CPOIP 11 the very best on their training journey.

Our thoughts are with our Policing Family.

The past few days have brought heartbreaking news from across the policing community, with members of the RCMP, Hamilton Police Service and Durham Regional Police Service among those who have died by su***de.

Our deepest condolences go to the families, friends, colleagues and members of the services who are grieving these losses. There are no easy words for moments like this.

To those working in public safety: look after one another. Check in on your colleagues. Make the call. Have the conversation. You don't have to wait until someone is struggling to ask how they're doing.

We stand with our Law Enforcement community during this difficult time.

Training isn’t supposed to be comfortable.

The goal of training isn’t to make every situation easy. It’s to create an environment where students can learn, make mistakes, adapt and improve before they’re faced with those same challenges in the real world.

At ALETC, our students are challenged through scenario-based training, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations, physical testing and other practical exercises designed to put their classroom knowledge into action.

Sometimes that means getting out of your comfort zone. Sometimes it means doing something again after getting it wrong the first time.

That’s the point.

Good training builds skills. Challenging training builds confidence.

The Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) assesses the strength, endurance and agility needed for physically demanding work in law enforcement.
