Please be advised that the preschool morning class has reached its staff-to-child ratio and, due to being short-staffed today, we are unable to accept any additional students for the morning class.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

An announcement will be made at lunch hour regarding whether the afternoon class will be able to operate today.

The KAHS morning class (4-Year-Olds) is currently full. Any new registration requests for the morning class will be placed on a wait list. If a space becomes available, a new student may be accepted from the wait list.

Afternoon Group (3-Year-Olds): We still have some seats available in the afternoon group and are continuing to accept registrations.

Kugluktuk Aboriginal Head Start is looking for a caring and knowledgeable Elder Mentor to support our preschool program!

The Elder Mentor will share Inuit culture, language, traditions, stories, songs, and traditional knowledge with young children.



- Engage and play with children and help create a happy and welcoming environment.
- Tell stories, sing songs, read books, and introduce children to Inuinnaqtun language and culture.
- Support cultural crafts and activities, including age-appropriate traditional skills such as sewing and working with skins.
- Share cultural knowledge and guidance with Educators.
Participate actively with children rather than only observing.
- Work with Educators to support planned classroom activities.



- Knowledge and experience in Inuit culture, language, traditions, and/or traditional skills.
- Enjoys working with young children and working as part of a team.
- Fluent in Inuinnaqtun/English is an asset
- Must provide a Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Record Check from the RCMP to be considered for the position.



- Hours are flexible and can be negotiated with the AHS Coordinator based on the program's needs and the Elder Mentor's availability.

AHS is open to public for new registration. Registration forms can be picked up today from now to 4:30 p.m. We are closed for lunch from noon to 1pm. Please bring a copy of your child's immunization record as well.

📚The first day of preschool - Thursday, August 20, 2026!

- Please bring a pair of indoor shoes for your child to wear at school.
- Please label your child’s belongings with their name whenever possible.
-Gradual Entry: As part of our gradual entry process, parents/guardians are welcome to stay with their new child during the first two weeks of school to help.

* Class Groups & Hours*

1) 4-Year-Old Group (Morning):
- Children who will be 4 years old and will be attending Kindergarten the following year will be placed in the morning group.
- Morning class: 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
- Please note that only a few spaces remain in the morning group.

2) 3-Year-Old Group (Afternoon):
- Children who are 3 years old will be placed in the afternoon group.
- Afternoon class: 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

📌 Important Registration Information📌

- New registration will resume on Thursday, August 20.
- Child must be 3 or 4 years old by Dec 31st, 2026.
- To be accepted into the program, families must submit a completed registration form along with a current immunization record.
- A copy of your child’s current immunization record is required with the registration form.
-Parents/guardians will be contacted once the AHS Coordinator has reviewed the application.
- Children must be potty trained to be accepted into the program.
- Please ensure all required information and documents are submitted with your registration form.

Registration is now open for the 2026–2027 school year.

- Registration forms can be picked up at AHS from Monday, June 1 to Friday, June 5, between 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- Please avoid drop-off times, as staff are busy welcoming preschoolers during these periods (8:30 – 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 – 1:30 p.m.).
- Please review the registration form carefully and complete all sections before submitting it. A copy of your child’s immunization record is also required.
