Kitscoty Track Season 2026
The Kitscoty High School Track & Field season has come to a successful close. Forty-three athletes competed for the school this year – another amazing group.
On the junior high front, 30 athletes competed at J.R. Robson in Vermilion on May 25th . The team represented our school well and had many outstanding performances. The Kitscoty crew won the Highway 16 banner, 86 points ahead of the next best team, and everyone qualified for the BTPS Finals on June 4th in Wainwright. Six of the twelve aggregate points winners were claimed by Cavaliers – wow!
The Finals competition saw another solid day of performances for Kitscoty. Among a number of season best performances came 5 new BTPS records. Allie Paul - U14 60M Hurdles. Nadine Paul – 14+ 400M. Blake Cole – 14+ 400M. Connor Kievits – 14+ 3000M
Boys Relay (Blake Cole / Ty Stelmaschuk / Dylan Paul / Brodie Schiller). The team came in second for the banner being eclipsed by the hometown team by only 15 points. The division aggregate winners saw Kitscoty claim four of the twelve spots. Overall, there was much growth in the athletes creating a solid foundation for the team going forward. Congrats to all athletes and best of luck to those exploring track and field competitions in the summer!
On the senior high front, 13 athletes started the season. The first meet was Districts at Holy Rosary School on May 20th. The Cavaliers battled the weather and 11 athletes qualified for Zone competition in Bonnyville on May 26 and 27. Zones has athletes from Fort McMurray to Paradise Valley and Holy Rosary to Lamont competing against each other. Only two athletes per event earn provincial spots. Kitscoty once again had a solid day with many outstanding and season best performances. Of note were the senior boys’ 5th / 6th / 7th finish in the long jump, Kaleb Hozack’s performances in long and triple jump, Keaton Smith’s qualifying times in the 100M and 200M. As well as Paul Wennekamp’s start in the 100M and throw in the shot put.
When the dust settled at the end of Zones, three Cavaliers earned their ticket to Provincials in Calgary on June 5th and 6th. Isabelle Samoil earned her second trip to Provincials in her high school track career. She competed in Senior Girls discus and finished 11th overall - awesome. Justin Paul competed in the Open Pentathlon, a one-day competition with 5 events - 100M, 800M, long jump, high jump and shot put. Justin was only one of two grade 11’s in the field, the other athletes were all in Grade 12. Justin finished his provincial experience with a season’s best 800M performance and being 13th overall – amazing! Riley Earl competed in Junior Boys Discus. Riley finished the competition in 7th with a throw of 30.68M – super! Congrats to all senior high athletes on their efforts this season. The Cavalier spirit you have exhibited during the season is something of which you should be very proud.
As the practice and competition season ended, athletes met for a wind-up BBQ at the Venance house. It was so awesome to see over 90% of the athletes come together for this event.
Thanks go out to Mr. McLean, Mrs. Garnier and Mr. and Mrs. Venance for their time invested with the team. Thank you as well to Mr. Stachniak, who is researching and ordering new
equipment for the team to use for next season. Huge thanks go out to the track families supporting the KHS athletes. From organizing to transporting to cheering – your support is outstanding and so very much appreciated!
Lastly, thank you Cavaliers! Your growth in skills will continue to improve with your effort. You are talented and have represented Kitscoty well!
