Today, on Orange Shirt Day, we were honoured to welcome Sylvia as our special guest. She shared teachings about her family and clan connections, explaining that her mother belonged to the Bear Clan and her father to the Frog Clan. Students listened attentively as Sylvia spoke about fishing for salmon and the excitement of calling out “KONA,” meaning fish eggs, when she and her cousins made a catch.

Sylvia also shared her family's experience with residential schools. She spoke about how her parents lost their Indigenous language as a result of attending residential school, and how she is now taking lessons to learn and reclaim that language. Her stories highlighted the importance of truth, understanding, cultural preservation and reconciliation.

Thank you, Sylvia, for sharing your knowledge, experiences and traditions with our students on this meaningful day. 🧡

We're proud to share that Christ the King Catholic Elementary School in Cambridge has earned the inaugural CREST Award for Emissions Reduction Leadership for K-12 Schools!
Out of 126 applications from schools across Ontario, Christ the King achieved the largest measured reduction in carbon emissions between the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years. The award was presented in partnership with EcoSchools Canada at the BOMA Awards Gala in Toronto on Sept. 17.

This achievement belongs to our Facilities and Operations teams. Their work identifying infrastructure upgrades and finding everyday operational efficiencies made a real, measurable difference, and it shows what's possible when departments work together toward a shared goal.
"We are extremely proud to receive this recognition. The success at Christ the King is a direct result of the incredible efforts of our Facilities and Operations teams," said Zeb Foss, Manager of Energy Conservation and Sustainability. "Our staff demonstrated that targeted investments in building technology and cross-departmental collaboration can yield massive, measurable reductions in our carbon footprint."

Thank you to every member of these teams for your dedication to caring for our schools and our shared home. We're grateful for the example you set for our students and our community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating the blessing of Holy Trinity Catholic Elementary School. We are grateful to our students, staff, families, parish community and honoured guests for sharing in this special occasion as we gathered in faith and thanksgiving.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Most Reverend Joseph Dabrowski, C.S.M.A., for presiding over the liturgy and offering blessings for our school community. His inspiring words and prayers marked this memorable milestone and reminded us of the important role faith plays in our daily lives.

As we continue building a vibrant Catholic learning environment, may Holy Trinity CES be a place where every student feels welcomed, valued and encouraged to reach their God-given potential. May faith, learning and service guide us throughout the school year and strengthen our community for years to come.

Thank you to our students, staff, families, parish partners, and distinguished guests for joining us for the opening blessing of St. Patrick Catholic Elementary School. It was a joyful and faith-filled celebration as we gathered together to dedicate our new school to God and begin this exciting chapter as a Catholic learning community.

We offer our sincere gratitude to Bishop Dabrowski, for leading the liturgy and blessing our school. His prayers and presence made this occasion especially meaningful as we entrusted our students, staff, and families to God's loving care and guidance.

As we open the doors of St. Patrick CES, may Christ be at the heart of all we do. May our school be a place where faith is nurtured, knowledge is shared, and every student is inspired to grow in wisdom, compassion, and service to others.

The Diocesan Mass Celebrating the Blessing of Catholic Education, sponsored annually by the Catholic Education Partnership in the Diocese, was held on September 16 at St. Mary of the Seven Sorrows Parish in Kitchener. This year, the Waterloo Catholic District School Board hosted the event.

The evening began with an inspiring keynote address by Julianne Stanz, one of the most respected voices in Catholic education and evangelization. Drawing on Pope Leo XIV's Apostolic Letter, Drawing New Maps of Hope, Julianne reflected on the image of “educational constellations,” challenging educators to build faith-filled learning communities where relationships, not technology, remain at the heart of student growth.

Following the keynote, Bishop Dabrowski, attending his first Diocesan Celebration of Catholic Education, celebrated a Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Mary's Church. The evening concluded with a fellowship reception at the Waterloo Catholic Education Centre.

This annual gathering celebrates the gift of publicly funded Catholic education and brings together students, educators, clergy, trustees, and community partners from across the seven Catholic school boards of the Diocese. Blessed with an exceptional turnout, the event was a joyful expression of our shared commitment to Catholic education.

“Standing at the foot of the Cross, Mary teaches us how to remain faithful in suffering, steadfast in love, and silent in strength.”

From the early days of the Church, devotion to the Sorrowful Mother has drawn hearts closer to Christ. Rooted in Scripture and nurtured by centuries of tradition - this devotion reminds us that Mary is not only the Mother of Jesus, but also the first disciple and our spiritual mother.

In her sorrow, she becomes our teacher.
In her silence, our companion.
In her fidelity, our model.

May Catholic education across the WCDSB form hearts that, like Mary’s, remain “standing” in faith—especially at the foot of the Cross. We pray today for Fr Raphael Ma C.R., and all our friends and parishioners St. Mary Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows Roman Catholic Church in Kitchener on their Feast Day.
