🚗🎓 Yes, we have field trips! 🎓🚗

Last week our second year students visited the Toyota manufacturing plant in Cambridge, Ontario.

Following a plant tour, we were privileged to meet with the Employee Communications team who generously shared insights into their roles, from managing the company's intranet to spearheading community relations initiatives and planning events. It was fascinating to learn about the strategic communication efforts that help Toyota thrive both internally and within the community. 🌟

We’re excited to announce that McKeela Watson, one of our outstanding fourth-year students, has been named the Co-op Student of the Year for 2024. 🎉

This incredible achievement comes on the heels of her successful final capstone presentation earlier in the day—what a way to cap off her academic journey!

We’re incredibly proud of McKeela and can’t wait to see all the amazing things she will accomplish in the future. 🌟 🎉

On February 29th, we kicked off our first SHSM Case Competition Workshop of 2024, welcoming Arts & Culture students from a local high school in the Waterloo District School Board.

In this hands-on session, the students stepped into the world of crisis communications by tackling a real-world scenario involving a celebrity endorser who created a media frenzy for their partner company. They worked together to craft key messages and participated in a mock news conference, fielding tough questions from the media in response to the negative press. It was an engaging and valuable experience for all involved!

Their efforts have been dedicated to research which will lead to strategic communications plans for their assigned clients:

- Capacity Canada
- Westfield Heritage Village (owned by Hamilton Conservation Authority)

We can’t wait for them showcase their years of hard work!

Our Public Relations students participated in the University of Waterloo's Community Wealth Lab on to consider the ethical aspects of the social innovation projects being proposed. This was the second of three Labs being held at involving 22 community organizations and over 100 students from three different programs! The Community Wealth Lab is co-hosted by the Waterloo Region Community Foundation (WRCF) and the Waterloo Institute for Complexity and Innovation (WICI).
