Some paths into healthcare begin with a deeply personal experience. For Melody, that moment came while caring for her grandmother. She shared that her grandmother had always surrounded her with love growing up, so when the time came for her grandmother to need support, Melody wanted to give that same care back.

Being there for her through her final chapter showed Melody how meaningful compassionate care can be, not just for the person receiving it, but for their entire family.

That experience led her to pursue a career where she could continue supporting those in need of love, care, and assistance.
Today, Melody is training through the Living Classroom Personal Support Worker program at Medix College, where students learn in a real long-term care environment while developing the skills needed to support seniors with dignity, empathy, and respect.

Stories like Melody’s are a reminder that behind every healthcare career is a reason, often rooted in compassion and lived experience. Personal Support Workers play an essential role in providing comfort, respect, and human connection in healthcare settings across Northern Ontario.
