First week of fall lessons 2023 done! Looks like the start of a great year!
All spots are currently full, but if you are interested in piano lessons let me know and I can add you to my waitlist (but feel free to keep looking for another teacher in the meantime if you wish). With two preschoolers of my own, I am super excited about adding some super fun new resources for little musicians to my studio! Did you know that preschool music lessons can be excellent preparation for school? Listening skills, pattern recognition, body awareness and muscle control, and 'reading' a page top down left to right are just a few things that preschool music lessons can help children learn.

Registration for new students for the fall piano term is now open! This year I am not offering lessons for the whole school year; instead, there will be two shorter terms. The 1st term runs from September through November and includes a recital or other group activity. There will be no lessons December and January (exceptions may be made for students wishing to take a piano exam). If you have been interested in piano lessons, the fall term may be the perfect chance to give it a try! No obligation to sign up for term 2 in early 2024.

Would anyone be interested in preschool/toddler early music/piano classes in Kinuso or Slave Lake area? Tentative information: 6 weeks/$85, small group, weekly classes, parent/caregiver needs to come and participate with child. Early music helps children develop skills such as listening/comprehension, muscle control, pattern recognition, and so much more!
If you are interested, comment or send me a message and I will keep you updated on whether or not this will be able to happen and any other information.

About 20 years ago I finished level 1A with my second teacher. This is probably the book in which I was ready to quit piano! I distinctly remember struggling with ¾ time signatures and telling my dad I couldn't do it, and my dad telling me I COULD do it and I wouldn't be quitting 😂 Parents, there is a time to push your kids through something difficult and not allow quitting to be an option. Dad, thanks for not letting me give up that easily 😉

It's not uncommon for teens who have been taking piano lessons for several years to start teaching someone else. Usually someone they know says 'hey, can you teach my child to play the piano?' There is definitely more to teaching the piano than taking lessons for a few years, but teaching can also be a great way to learn. If teachers who have been teaching for awhile are willing to share their knowledge, mistakes, and experiences; hopefully new teachers can be better set up to help their students succeed! In this video I share a piano method that I recommend for young beginning teachers. I'm not an expert on piano methods, but in this video and some future videos I will try to share some of what I like or did not like about the methods I've seen and used. Hopefully it can be helpful to other new teachers, and perhaps also give parents an idea which methods may be particularly well suited to their child 🎶
