The EngiQueers chapter at Smith Engineering is making a comeback!
When Sophia Thurston (pictured above, right), former president of the club, decided to dedicate her limited spare time to bolstering the ailing chapter, she found there was a gap to fill. After starting out small with social events like study groups and movie nights, Queen's Engiq***rs is starting to focus on advocacy and support for q***r engineering students, says new president, Xan Guiliani (pictured above, left).

Congratulations to Mechanical Engineering student Ruby Sinclair (Sc,'27) on winning the Gold Medal Student Award from Engineers Canada | Ingénieurs Canada !
With a focus on biomechanics, Ruby's projects have included a low-cost microfluidic iodine deficiency diagnostic chip; a non-invasive jaundice detection tool; and a 3D-printable, body-powered prosthetic arm intended for survivors of the ongoing conflict in Myanmar. She's even helped design a traction mechanism for a lunar rover and co-authored a proposal for experimental drug delivery trial in zero gravity, to provide better medical treatment in space.
A multi-award winner, Ruby has received the Cansbridge Fellowship, Zenith Fellowship and the inaugural Claudette MacKay-Lassonde scholarship from Polytechnique Montréal (2025).

MechMania swept the department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering during the last week of classes!
Second year MME student teams were given a real-life scenario (rural, hillside water channels damaged) and tasked with improving flow using a device of their own design, powered by a small computer and programming script written by the team. Replace water with a small ball, add a finals competition at the end of the week and you've got the idea.
This multi-faceted project required teams to collaborate, delve into a variety of engineering problems spanning disciplines and complete it all within a week while maintaining their poise and professionalism.
Swipe through for photos of the wins and the close calls!

Welcome to Civil Week 2: Second year Civil Engineering students were tasked with designing a livable coastal house that can withstand climate-change induced waves and weather.
A week of designing on teams within specific parameters (budget, living space, structural soundness etc), testing at the Queen’s University Coastal Engineering Laboratory, and wrap up presentations, Civil Week 2 was an exercise in learning, collaboration and professionalism.
Congratulations on a successful week!
