It's Emancipation Day and we're celebrating in Kingston!! Be sure to come out to the inaugural flag raising ceremony today at 12pm - Confederation Park. Then enjoy a movie at The Screening Room starting at 6pm.

The celebrations don't stop... Don't miss the opening reception happening on Friday at 6pm.

Then to round out the events, be sure to come out to the Black Black Party on Saturday August 3 from 11am to 5pm. Ruthy's Reading Room will be sharing a story, activity and a craft at 230pm in the Amphitheatre behind City Hall.

The entire day will be fun for the entire family and you'll support Black businesses in Kingston!! See you there.

Come and celebrate Emancipation Day in downtown Kingston ! This Saturday (JULY 29) will be THE main event! Black owned businesses from the area will be on display at the Black Block Party! Check the list

Yours truly will be enjoying story time with all my little readers at 130pm and 3pm. Come and enjoy a story or few to round out the fun and activity! Bouncy castles, face painting, muralist, spoken word artists, music, excellent food and more 🙌🏾💪🏾

A couple days late, but I wanted to share this story. A great family resource opened in the community and I got a little cameo as part of Global TV's coverage!

Ruthy's reading room will be facilitating story time at the center. You know I'll be reading the books I feature on the channel, as well as great library books by diverse authors!

Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation aka Orange Shirt Day 🧡

This year on this day when we pause to recognize, remember and reflect. Let us again, take time to consider what Orange Shirt Day aka National Day For Truth & Reconciliation means.

Let us recall the moments in Canadian history (and now) when Indigenous people were mistreated. Their children were removed to residential schools for the express purpose of deconstructing their language, cultural practice and connection to community.

Today, my featured review honors the experiences of Indigenous peoples by highlighting one Indigenous author's work.
