“You have seen Queen’s University as it was, and as it is. In its struggles, and in its strengths. If it is to advance it must have resources... To keep in the forefront of the march of knowledge”.
"Since the founding of Queen’s in 1841 to present day, the characteristics of our school have changed immensely, but the character remains the same. Queen’s has always been built on the shoulders of dedicated and proud students who were willing to invest into buildings they would never step foot in, to the benefit of students whom they’d never meet. As Queen’s students there are several traditions we hold so dearly. The Oil Thigh, frosh dances, Homecoming, jacket slams, all share a common theme at Queen’s: the tradition of community. The individuals who built Grant Hall, the Queen's Centre, Wallace Hall, and countless other buildings on campus never met any of us or got to see the full extent of their labour, but still felt a duty to better the experiences of us as students.
Now, it’s our turn. It’s our turn better the lives of future Queen’s students by offering them a sign of our generation, and a commemoration of our experiences at this school. Now we have the fortunate opportunity to make a lasting impact on our school. One which will be enjoyed by, and perhaps inspire, future generations to do the same. You’re not just voting for the building, you’re also voting for the retention of our traditions, and supporting the culture which has shaped our experiences. With that being said, enjoy this 1926 film made in conjunction between the government of Ontario and Queen’s University. This video shows both the differences, and lasting similarities, between then and now. Our school is full of rich history, and right now is our opportunity to add to it."
