Our Story

It was over one hundred years ago when Dr. Maria Montessori introduced her educational methods to a group of impoverished children who lived in the San Lorenzo district of Rome, Italy. This first “Children’s House” was the beginning of a movement that still impacts us today.

For over 25 years, Bayside Montessori School has carried on in the tradition of Dr. Montessori’s vision of a child-based learning environment. We strive to be the very best alternative to public school kindergarten by providing an atmosphere in which the “whole child” is stimulated intellectually, emotionally, physically and socially.

At Bayside Montessori School we recognize and embrace the need to cultivate the child’s own natural desire to learn. We want each child to experience the excitement and fulfillment of learning through choice. The Montessori materials presented to the child assist in facilitating that excitement, in addition to encouraging the child to perfect all of his natural tools for learning so that his ability for future learning is able to reach maximum potential. Our environment includes specially-designed materials which are appealing, generally simple, self-correcting, engaging and child-sized.

Please call us to arrange an observation of our classrooms. We will be happy to answer any questions that you may have about our program. Our hours run Monday-Friday 9am-4pm. Before and after care are available upon request. Our program is based on a ten month school year.
