President of QUCA Rodrigo Garfinkle on why Sir John A. Macdonald’s legacy should be remembered with honesty, context, and historical perspective, not erased from public memory.
For 126 years, his statue stood in Kingston as a reminder of the man who helped found this country and shaped this city. His connection to Kingston and to the early history of Queen’s is part of our shared story, even as we acknowledge the more difficult parts of his record.
At a time of trade uncertainty, global conflict, foreign interference, and growing threats to our sovereignty, reclaiming Sir John A. is about reclaiming confidence in Canada, our history, and the country he helped build.

Last week, members of the QUCA executive were privileged to attend a meet and greet in Kemptville with Members of Parliament Michael Barrett and Scott Aitchison for a great discussion about the issues most salient to Leeds—Grenville and the broader housing challenges facing Canadians.
Thank you to MP Barrett and MP Aitchison for the thoughtful conversation and warm welcome.

Last night we had the pleasure of welcoming the Hon. Michael D. Chong, Shadow Minister of Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for Wellington—Halton Hills North, for QUCA’s last event of the 2025–2026 school year.
MP Chong gave a powerful speech highlighting Mark Carney’s speech at Davos and the importance of maintaining the rules-based system that has been in effect since 1945, the wealth and prosperity it has created, and he cautioned against the realignment the Prime Minister has proposed.
The Member also emphasized Canada’s resilience and its role in helping shape that system. Looking ahead, he spoke about Canada’s potential to lead as a resource superpower, improve conditions domestically, and support our allies abroad.
We are incredibly grateful to have been joined by the Hon. Michael D. Chong and to have finished the school year on a high and optimistic note for the future.
This year, the club saw remarkable growth, with a record number of members, tabling on campus, a collaborative event with the Queen’s Liberal Club, a cross-campus event with conservative clubs from universities across Ontario, the opportunity to host multiple MPs as well as provincial ministers and representatives, and the continued strengthening of Queen’s conservative community.
