The first day back never loses its magic! We had an enthusiastic standing ovation for our SCC to thank them for a fantastic pancake breakfast and everything they do all year long!

We played a Little/Middle/Big game of Guess Who to reconnect and get to know each other.

We headed outside for a game of BEE tag, formerly known as mosquito tag!

And we wrapped the morning up with a group photo to capture our first day, with a few absent students photoshopped in!

And our first few weeks of school we will practice BEEing the Reason others feel welcome. With 10 new students, it’s the perfect time to practice kindness!!

What a privilege to work alongside such a dedicated, energetic, creative, and compassionate team! As part of the University of Regina’s Bachelor of Education program, “students complete an intensive 12-week internship under the daily supervision of a cooperating teacher, an experience that has become the flagship of the Faculty of Education.”

We are very excited to welcome three University of Regina interns to KCS for the first semester of this coming school year. We are grateful to Ms. Welms, Miss Cairns, and Ms. Press for stepping up to embrace this opportunity as cooperating teachers and we are grateful to Miss Lipp, Miss Lindsay, and Miss Nedila for joining us at KCS! We hope you feel right at home and have a great experience at KCS!

Our high school magnet welding program provides instruction to students from Mankota, Kincaid, and Glentworth, utilizing the Rural Municipality shop in Mankota. In June of last year, Mr. Fehr, Mr. Onraet, and Ms. Pilgrim met with Hart Smith at the shop to support a smooth transition as Mr. Fehr leaves to teach in Moose Jaw and Hart Smith and Mr. Onraet take over the reins of the welding program moving forward.

On behalf of our school communities, we’d like to extend a warm welcome to Hart as he steps into this new role. We recognize and appreciate the enthusiasm, expertise, and champion-for-youth mindset that he brings to the students we serve.

Hart Smith grew up farming in the Mankota area. He studied welding at Sask Polytech and graduated with his journeyman ticket in 2019.

Hart’s work experience during his apprenticeship included working at Avanti Steel Erectors Ltd. in Regina for over a year, as well as at JR’s Welding Ltd. in Regina for over two years. There he worked in the shop and ran a welding truck.

Hart now farms full-time with his brother and father and runs a welding business on the side, Ironsmith’s Repair Incorporated. Hart has a special interest in farm machinery repair which certainly aligns well with skills our students might need in their future agricultural endeavours.

Wednesday, September 2nd, is the first day back for all students, including our new kindergarten students! Please note that our first day back will follow a DAY 2 schedule so that our kindergarten students can join us on the first day of school.

Representatives of the organizing committee for The Students of the 60’s Reunion presented a cheque to KCS student athletes, Tess and Noah, to go towards the purchase of new uniforms for the bantam and senior volleyball teams. Noah M. and Tess S. graciously accepted the donation on behalf of all students. This cheque represents the remaining funds raised at the school reunion.

In 2003 some former students had a dream of having a school reunion. Rus Lovo, Orra Thibault, Grant Verbrugge, Al Mulhern, Wayne Lovely, Jim Robertson, and Bonnie Wilson worked to make that dream a reality in July 2004. It was a wonderful weekend of reconnecting with old friends and reminiscing about those carefree high school years!

It is our hope that the jerseys play a part in making lifetime memories for present and future student athletes.

Our Bantam Boys', Bantam Girls', Senior Boys', and Senior Girls' volleyball teams will be starting the 2026 season in brand-new team jerseys!

A collaborative design process that welcomed ongoing input from athletes, parents, staff, and coaches resulted in the final jersey design. Various jersey options were displayed in the hallway, allowing everyone to share their ideas and provide feedback. The final design reflects the collective input received throughout the process, with very strong voice from our student athletes.

The purchase of the four sets of jerseys truly represents a team effort. Funding came from money raised through the concession, operated by parents during our home games and tournaments, a generous contribution from the BJ and Sharon Haubrich Highbench Farm Partnership toward one set, and a significant donation from the Students of the 60's.

Mrs. Wilson took our Grade 6/7 class on a walk to the park, with a stop at the store for treats. What started as a simple outing turned into a memorable adventure! The students met Ann and Gui, a friendly couple from Quebec who are cycling all the way from Victoria, B.C., to the East Coast.

They have already been on the road for over a month, and their journey will take about three months to complete. They cycle approximately 100 km each day! Ann and Gui also shared information about the cycling community's "Warm Showers" program, where fellow cyclists open their homes to provide a hot shower, a place to camp, or even an overnight stay.

They told the students about the many types of wildlife they have encountered during their travels and shared that Saskatchewan has been one of their favourite places to visit. What a fun learning opportunity for our students to connect with travellers from across Canada and hear firsthand about their experiences.
