Final batch of photos from the PCS mindfulness hike in the Kimberley Nature Park Society led by Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook π₯Ύ
Youβve heard of name that tune? π€π΅ How about, find that tree! π΅οΈπ²
The highlight of our hike was a sensory awareness exercise in which students were blindfolded and carefully guided to a tree selected for them π―
Using only their sense of touch, smell, and spatial awareness, they explored the tree and its surroundings π§
After being led away and removing their blindfolds, students were challenged to find βtheirβ tree again π
This activity encouraged them to be fully present, engage their senses, and develop a deeper connection with the natural environment π£

Preservation as conservation in Outdoor Education class π¦β»οΈ
PCS students are learning to transform deer skins into traditional hides, a process that requires patience, care, and respect for the animal π
Through each stage of the hide-tanning process, students are gaining hands-on experience with a skill that has sustained communities for generations. From scraping and cleaning the hides to preparing them for softening and preservation, students are learning that meaningful work often takes time, dedication, and attention to detail π
This project also provides an opportunity to explore the rich Indigenous traditions and teachings connected to hide tanning, with guidance and support from PCS student Sohketa Lewis of the Ministikwan Lake Cree Nation π§‘
