Why you need to prepare your body for perimenopause. 👇
The lead-up to menopause, known as perimenopause, can last for years and up to a decade. During this time, many physical and hormonal changes occur within your body.
During perimenopause estrogen declines, leading to an uptick in tendinopathies (tendon conditions that cause pain and swelling).
Building a buffer of health in your muscles and tendons now will help you avoid tendinopathies in the future. Leading up to perimenopause, you should be…
✔️ Exercising regularly.
✔️ Meeting your nutritional requirements.
✔️ Stretching and promoting mobility.
✔️ Getting as much good quality sleep as you can.
Perimenopause is inevitable. But that doesn’t mean you can’t prepare yourself for the changes to come. Give this post a ❤️ if you agree it’s never too early to set yourself up for success.

If you’ve noticed a change in your bum post-baby, here’s what you need to know.
As your center of gravity shifts forward during pregnancy it can overactive some muscles (like your hip flexors) while under-activating others (your glutes).
Strong glutes help to stabilize your knees, spine, and hips. They support hip extension and can help you reduce your risk of pelvic pain.
Chances are you did a lot more sitting late in your third trimester and postpartum, so it only makes sense that your glutes are a little sleepy.
The problem is: If you don’t use it, you lose it.
That doesn’t mean you can’t get it back. The key is to choose the right exercises that will help you get there safely.
This is a major focus of our GrowCo. Group rehab program. Our goal is to bring women together and empower them with the knowledge and understanding to help build a strong buffer of health for years to come.
It’s not about starting over, it’s about doing better.

Women expect the physical changes of pregnancy, yet having a baby also produces some changes in the brain🧠
The journal of nature neuroscience found that pregnancy alters the size and structure of brain regions involved in understanding the thoughts, feelings, beliefs and intentions. This was done through MRI brain scans on women pre conception and then post partum.
The new mothers showed a loss of gray matter in several brain areas associated with social cognition, a form of emotional intelligence.
However, loss of volume does not necessarily translate to loss of function. This could represent a fine-tuning of synapses into more efficient neural networks.
While more research needs to be conducted to further investigate, this contribution to our understanding of the total body changes to a woman post partum is important.
Clinicians & trainers: a gentle reminder that you’re treating MOM. Not diastasis, not a sore back or shoulder— a human being who has just undergone a massive, life altering, transformative event, who is under a stress so vast even she doesn’t understand the extent of it. She needs to be understood and cared for: body, mind & spirit.

PART 3 - 4 STEPS TO ‘FIX YOUR MOM BUM’
Don’t watch this without listening to part 2 & 3 first!
PART 2 - “why did I lose my 🍑 after giving birth?”

Staying true to your intention is hard work, especially when you’re a mother.
More often than not, something will stand in the way of your best-laid plans. But when it comes to your postpartum healing, it’s important that you try to stay the course.
What you do now will affect the next 40-50 years of your life.
Your healing cannot wait.
Putting yourself first—saying “I’m sorry, I’m not available”—is really hard as a new mother. But prioritizing your postpartum recovery will set you up for better health in the long-term. And your family needs that from you.
Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish. Take time for rest when you feel overwhelmed, make room in your schedule to see a specialist (virtually, if needed), find movement that feels good in your body every day.

Vanessa’s GROWCO story✨
“My C section birth was urgent and unexpected, so I really had no idea of what to expect when it came to my recovery. I had my first newborn baby in my arms and I was in SO much pain yet was told nothing about how to rehabilitate from this surgery and had ZERO follow up except a few glances at my incision.
I was told I could return to “normal” function after 6 weeks but I did not see how that would be possible.
So, when I came across Alli’s rehab program, I was intrigued. It felt right to do something more targeted and tailored for C sections. I’ve worked through the program a couple of times since I joined 6 months ago (around 8 weeks PP), and I am blown away by the results.
When I first started I was so weak I could barely hold a half plank and could not do a dead bug for the life of me without shaking and feeling exhausted afterward. Now, I feel so much stronger in my core and my glutes and my stability has returned. My TVA feels better enaged with Alli's que's and my pelvic floor strength is returning too. I love the sequencing of the classes and the demonstration of good form is on point!
Thank you so much Alli for creating this program, it is so badly needed.” - Vanessa F ()

Hey new mama: it’s time to put your health first. For real. 💜
During your first year together, your baby will have 9-10 checkups, but you’ll likely have just ONE. Doesn’t make a lot of sense, does it? 🤷♀️
After all, you just went through a massive transformation. Your body will never be exactly the same as it was 10-plus months ago.
And guess what? Neither will you.
But with the right support, you can feel stronger and healthier—both mentally and physically—than ever before.
Don’t just take it from us.
Take it from our GrowCo patient we’ll call Linda. Linda came across GrowCo when her first child was three years old. She said she always dreamed of having two to three kids, but stopped after one because of severe low back pain. 😫
Linda had never heard of diastasis before, so it was a shock for her to discover she had a 5-FINGER WIDE gap. 😯 Through a customized and focused core exercise program, Linda felt empowered not only to heal, but to take back control of her life.
Now, Linda is a mama of two! If it wasn’t for our initial interaction, she says she may have never had her second child. 👨👩👧👦
The lesson in all of this? Taking the time to care for yourself after birth can shift the entire course of your life. 😍

Taking care of yourself is part of taking care of your baby.
Seriously, your baby isn’t the only one that needs mothering.
Mama, we know you want the best for your little one and that you put their needs first, but if you’re in pain, starting to feel exhausted, overwhelmed, and anxious, take it as a sign that you need to shift your focus a little.
After all, your body is a lot more than a feeding machine, and it’s still yours even if it doesn’t feel like it right now.
We know it can be tough to pull yourself away and quiet the mom guilt but remember, you’re doing this for them as much as you’re doing it for you.
Our GrowCo sessions will help you eliminate the pain and dysfunction that you’ve been told comes along with being a mother.
Together we’ll work through the 4 pillars of healing to help you get to know your body, build a strong foundation, and reclaim your identity. You’ll also connect with other mamas who have been where you are right now.

No matter how “fit” you were before or during your pregnancy, the human body just doesn’t work that way.
Think about it: You just spent 9 months changing from the inside out – your muscles and connective tissues have stretched and lengthened, your internal organs have shifted, and your hormones are likely still in flux.
On top of that, you’ve been through massive trauma during birth that resulted in stretching, tearing, and more (depending on your birth method). Even your brain has changed.
Unless you’re a superhero, there’s no coming back from that in 6 weeks.
Your postpartum recovery doesn’t have to be complicated, but it does take commitment. This is why we created our group rehab program.
We know how hard it is to stay on track when you’re learning how to take care of a baby, while juggling all the usual responsibilities, but it has to be done. Future you is depending on it.
Our 4-week doctor designed and led rehab program will help you heal your body from the inside out and set yourself up for a lifetime of good health. Bonus: You’ll also get to connect with other moms who are on the same journey.

✨NEW EPISODE: THE GROWCO PODCAST✨
This week, I’m thrilled to welcome colleague Dr. Kirstie Griffiths, a chiropractor, and yoga instructor out of Guelph, Canada. (
Dr. Kirstie is a disrupter in the wellness field, helping people understand and heal through the strong correlation between physical and mental health.
She shares her story of recognizing that there was a need to open the barriers for people who wanted to access fitness and yoga but felt intimated, and how her class-based treatments provide the opportunity to educate and do the necessary deep work with her patients.
Dr. Kirstie also shares the inspiration behind her first book, Back To Wellness, and why it’s so important for people to manage their pain using a mind-body approach. She and I also discuss the importance of women post-partum setting aside time for self-care.
LISTEN: link in bio, Spotify, apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcast!
Tweetables:
“It’s really incredible, the overlap and how there is this commonality between the groups of people coming in for chiro care and people accessing this yoga program.” - Kirstie
“For me, it’s very much honing into some of those signals that the body is trying to give, listening to that and honoring what it’s asking for.” - Kirstie
“If you are always operating from an empty cup, it means you have less to give to other people.” - Kirstie

A .rehab health professional understands that not all pregnancies & birth are created equal as it pertains to how you heal.
Sometimes, the intervention used has an association with other complications, later in life.
Understanding this early on is critical to preventing things like prolapse, incontinence, back pain etc.
By addressing the common associations and correlations early on, we can be proactive with your health — in many cases avoiding the issue completely.

THE GROWCO PODCAST: 5️⃣ Important Elements To Your Postnatal Plan
In this episode, I’ll share with you why it’s important to have a postnatal plan, even if you have already had a baby.
If you are a health professional, this can also help you set your patients up for lifelong success.
You’ll hear the 5 Elements to a Postnatal plan and I’ll give a breakdown of how you easily incorporate each one into your life without too much energy or time.
Remember, flexibility is key, and it’s about creating a buffer of health fo yourself so that you can feel amazing now and be the best for both you and your loved ones.
When you have a baby, there’s a lot that is unknown about how you will be when you become a mom. Not everything can be planned for, but you can have a plan to make a plan.
My website: growcorehab.com
The Anchor website: https://www.anchorhere.ca/
Tweetables:
“Flexibility is key.”
“All births are beautiful, but they are not the same when it comes to how your body responds, your prognosis, and your healing.”
“We need to honor where we’re at and give ourselves the grace of rest and rehab.”
.

Who needs a dedicated pelvic floor program?
Just about everyone who has been pregnant & given birth! Yes, even individuals who are very fit pre & post pregnancy.
Turns out, your level of overall fitness doesn’t necessarily correlate to your pelvic floor function or strength.
This study (swipe) is one of my favourites. It aimed to examine:
👉 the differences in maximal vaginal descent (MVD), vaginal resting pressure (VRP), and pelvic floor muscle strength (PFMS) between women who habitually perform strenuous exercise vs women who refrain from performing strenuous exercise
and
👉compare MVD, VRP, and PFMS before and immediately following physical activity in the strenuous and nonstrenuous groups separately.
Study design: Participants were healthy nulliparous women ages 18-35 years. The “strength” group participated in CrossFit at least 3 days per week for at least 6 months.
The comparison group was sedentary.
Findings: After an exercise bout typical for each group, vaginal support and VRP decreased slightly in both groups. Based on preexercise measures, chronic strenuous exercise demonstrated neither beneficial nor deleterious effects on pelvic floor strength or support. While strenuous women had greater grip strength than nonstrenuous women, PFMS was not significantly greater, suggesting that targeted pelvic floor muscle strengthening, rather than general muscle fitness, is needed to maximize pelvic floor muscle strength.
Lots to extrapolate from this study and research further!

AMA 👇

To be blunt, I don’t want you part of this statistic.
rehab exists to help you feel good now, but also to ward off the complications that have become regarded as normal.
A 2009 study by Wu et al projects that the prevalence of women with at least 1 pelvic floor disorder will increase from
28.1 million in 2010 to 43.8 million in 2050.
Other alarming projections:
• in the same time frame, # of women with urinary incontinence will increase 55% from 18.3 million to 28.4 million.
• For f***l incontinence, the number of affected women will increase 59% from 10.6 to 16.8 million
• the number of women with POP will increase 46% from 3.3 to 4.9 million.
Early post natal assessment and intervention has the power to reduce the symptoms or eliminate entirely your risk of these conditions.
Whether you gave birth 5 days ago, 5 months ago or 5 years ago, it’s never too late to get started with a dedicated pelvic floor and core program, like GROWCO, to support your health and healing.
Our doctor-designed and led rehab program will help you heal any underlying dysfunction while building a buffer of health to keep you going for years to come. Together, we’ll work through the 4 Pillars of Healing, including:
· Breathwork
· Postural protocol
· Core & pelvic floor
· Glute activation & strengthening
Send us a DM “ab rehab” for a free week trial in our ab rehab app.
Did you learn more about pregnancy and childbirth from social media than your prenatal appts?
You’re not alone.
I had near 1000 comments on a tiktok I posted 2 days ago. I spoke about how your placenta leaves a dinner-plate size wound in your uterus and is the reason for your ~6 week bleed.
Largely those 1000 comments articulated that women had no idea about their placenta, or even why they experienced the lochia.
“I’ve had 5 kids and I had no idea!”
“I learned more about pregnancy and childbirth from tiktok than ACTUALY pregnancy and child birth!”
“Why didn’t my OB tell me this?”
I’m proud to use my platform to educate and I am so happy you are here to learn. But I can’t help but feel our healthcare system is falling so short for the care and education we provide for pregnant and post partum patients.
Did you get to see your placenta after you birthed it?

If you’re in your third trimester, we need to talk.
We’re not sure if you know this already, but the standard of care for post-partum women in Canada needs some serious work.
The reality is: it’s on you to advocate for your own healing. But you don’t have to do it alone.
The key is starting early – BEFORE your baby makes their arrival. It’s important to educate yourself and making a plan for your recovery (not just your baby’s birth).
We want to support you well before, and beyond, the 6-week postnatal checkup. You know, the one where they tell you you’re cleared to return to physical activity. There’s so much more to it than that.
Depending on your birth method, it could take up to 11 weeks before you’re ready to begin rehabilitating your body – no matter how active you are pre-baby.
Think about it – if you have a c-section, we’re talking about major abdominal surgery. If you give birth vaginally, your body will still experience massive (but miraculous) trauma.
Mama, be gentle with yourself. Even the strongest women struggle with incontinence and pain. These symptoms don’t resolve on their own. “Snapping back” is just not realistic – no matter what you see on Instagram.
Ready to talk about your post-partum recovery plan? Our DMs are always open.

If you gave birth you are post partum.
Everything is connected and this doesn’t change based on when you gave birth.
Whether your baby is five months or five years old, there are steps you can take to eliminate dysfunction and prevent future issues.

If you watched Selling Sunset and felt some kind of way about Christine’s “bounce back” — we need to talk.
Here’s what you need to know👇
1️⃣The filming timeline was altered.
2️⃣It’s specially edited down to the finest detail.
3️⃣It’s deceitful & intentionally done for publicity (mission accomplished)
I’m angry. My DMs have been full of women telling me about their visceral response to what they watched. Despite following my account and knowing the truth, thinking there was something wrong with them - that there was no way they could do the stairs at home much less a yoga class at 3 weeks post partum.
This is the kind of thing that sets back the work that .rehab and so many others post natal leaders are doing to dismantle the bounce back culture and instead turn the focus to lifelong health back decades.
Think about it – if you have a c-section, we’re talking about major abdominal surgery. If you give birth vaginally, your body may experience massive (but miraculous) trauma.

#5 is my fave

Mama, your health has been ignored for far too long‼️
Decades of research has gone into the impact of a lack of postpartum care. Some of this research dates back to the 80s and 90s, but we still have better protocols for sprained ankles than mothers after birth.
A 1991 study found that almost half of the nearly 12,000 postpartum women studied experienced health problems within 3 months of giving birth. Those symptoms, which they had never experienced before, lasted more than six weeks.
A study published in 1995 concluded, “the present six-week postnatal examination does not appear to meet the health needs of women after childbirth.”
To put that into context: the women born when those studies were being conducted are now old enough to be having their own children—and still nothing has changed.
We’re no longer willing to accept this lack of care and education.
It’s time we support mothers in their healing. 💜
