❤️ I can't wait to head back to Asheville, NC this summer to keynote the 2024 National PE Institute!

✈️ I haven't been south of the border since 2020. Between that and stepping away from Twitter (RIP), it feels like I haven't connected with my family in forever!

🙏 I'm so grateful for the opportunity to go back to Asheville for the Institute. When I was asked to describe what first-timers can expect of the event, I said it feels as if you're walking in on a family dinner and there is a plate already waiting for you. Thank you to the one and only Artie Kamiya and all of the team at NC SHAPE for bringing the National PE Institute back!

Twitter might be dead, but the community is not.⁣
⁣
The community is more than an app or a platform. It’s a shared culture, a collective history, a network of not only peers but friends. What we are facing isn’t a dead-end, it’s just a new chapter. A new home where the forever-needed public conversation about what effective education is and what it looks like can live.⁣
⁣
After months of testing the platform, paying attention to the culture being built there, and waiting for the right tools to be in place, I’m now convinced that Threads is the right location for our next chapter to take place.⁣

Learning a whole new platform can be daunting, which is why I’ve put together a “Welcome to Threads” blog post that covers all of the major features, how to use them, and how we need to be on Threads for Team to thrive there.⁣

In my latest post, I share how I set up a Forest Archery activity for the students at my school. It wouldn’t have been possible without a class archery set… which I built DIY style for about $50!⁣

🥵 It’s a sweaty, muggy kind of day… but I got my FMS Posters up so all is good.

👌🏻Day Zero.

Excited to be able to come in to my new gym this week to start preparing for the 2023-2024 school year.

It’s been 10 years since I last had to set up in a gym that was new to me, and (I’m not gonna lie) I forgot what a heavy lift it can be to make a place feel like home.

So incredibly grateful for this opportunity to begin again in a new school, to bring what value I have to share to a new community, and to start a new school year a little bit wiser (and a whole lot older) than last time around.

📍 This September, I’m going back to teaching as a member of the Kings County Academy (KCA) physical education department.

🏡 KCA is the K-8 public school in the town where I live, and I can’t wait to get to serve students and families from my community.

🔥 I’m so fired up to be “Mr. Joey” once again and I’m grateful to be able to share my journey with all of you!

🗓️ August is here and my teacher brain is starting to awaken once again.

🥳 This year is an exciting one for me: after a three-year hiatus, I’ll be going back to the gym to teach elementary ! I can’t wait to be back as “Mr. Joey” and am particularly excited to be teaching right here in the town where we live. Getting to serve the kids and families in my community is something that has me feeling both incredibly grateful and fired up at the same time.

👀 Building a curriculum from scratch is no joke. It’s an incredible undertaking that can leave even the most experienced teacher feeling overwhelmed. The best way I know how to avoid feeling crushed by the task is to craft a clear vision that will help guide you through the process.

🇨🇦 I can’t wait to present at this year’s PHE Canada National Conference in PEI!

The last time I presented at our national conference was in Montreal back in 2019 (which - on paper - doesn’t sound that long ago but it feels like it was a billion years ago).

I love offering active sessions and I’m excited to get to share a variety of tactics and approaches that can help physical educators take an outcomes-based approach to their teaching.

🦫 Prairie Dog Pickoff deserves to be in the Hall-of-Fame.

🔀 The game provides teachers with a HUGE variety of ways to tailor it to meet your students needs. This also means that Prairie Dog Pickoff can be modified to meet a variety of learning targets related to invasion games skills and tactics.

🏫 Personally, I think this game is ideal for middle school outcomes. That said, I’ve used it with my elementary students as well.
