This year, Thanksgiving falls on October 12th! Did you know that the history of Canadian Thanksgiving goes as far back as the 16th century, when English explorer Martin Frobisher first held a "service of thanks" after his crew's safe passage to Newfoundland? In the early 17th century, Samuel de Champlain continued the tradition by adding a harvest feast comprised of harvest food and game from local farmers. By the late 18th century, harvest meals during mid-autumn were a common staple across Canada as a way for farmers and local populations to give thanks for the food they had been able to grow/catch for winter. The Canadian government fixed the date in 1957 as the second Monday of every October.

This Thanksgiving, KPDSB wishes everyone a relaxing holiday filled with thanks and gratitude. Happy Thanksgiving!

October 10th, 2026 is World Mental Health Day! This day highlights the importance of positive mental health as a crucial component of an individual's overall health. Moreover, this day draws attention to the many mental health struggles and disorders that people face around the world, and calls upon various organizations to increase mental health supports and education for all those in need. Struggling with mental health should never be stigmatized and having access to mental health supports should never be out of reach. This year, the theme for World Mental Health Day is "Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change".

At KPDSB, we recognize that mental health awareness and resources are crucial components of student well-being and success, and we aim to support every student with the mental health resources and education they need. Consider how hearing the lived experiences of others has changed your own perception and/or understanding of mental health struggles, and how sharing your own experiences could potentially help support someone else.

They're back...!!! And we are here for it!

The Beaver Brae Bronco Girls' Hockey team is fundraising with Larson Bay Candle Co again this year. Orders are open now ($28/ea), and will close on October 28th. Candles will then be delivered the week of Nov 2nd-5th.

Candles can be viewed/ordered from any girls hockey player, by coming to the main office at BB, or by purchasing directly through School Cash Online: https://kpdsb.schoolcashonline.com/Fee/Details/23428/26/False/True

We’re proud to continue our partnership with City of Kenora Fire and Emergency Services through our High School Co-op Program!

A huge thank you to the team at the Firehall for your ongoing support and commitment to providing our students with meaningful, hands-on learning experiences. The real success of this program speaks for itself—several of Kenora’s current full-time firefighters actually got their start right here as high school Co-op students! 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

We’re thrilled to help introduce our students to such a rewarding career path in the fire service, and we look forward to growing this incredible partnership for years to come.
