Across KCDSB, students and staff are participating in meaningful learning and activities that honour the children who never returned home, Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities.

We invite students, staff and families to join us in wearing orange as we listen, learn and reflect on the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools and the importance of reconciliation.

🧡 Gathering in Prayer, Song and Reflection

Today, students, staff, families and community members gathered at St. Thomas Aquinas High School for a morning of learning, reflection and remembrance.

Elder Jeanette Skead opened our gathering with a prayer and blessing and shared teachings, while the Wauzhushk Onigum Drummers led us through four powerful drumming songs.

Together, we then took part in a commemorative walk to the Cecilia Jeffrey Residential School Memorial Site.

Miigwech to Elder Jeanette, the Wauzhushk Onigum Drummers and everyone who gathered and walked with us today. 🧡
