Bees don’t set out from the hive with altruistic intentions of pollinating our food crops.

They collect pollen because it is their source of protein (this is what differentiates bees from carnivorous wasps).

The little extra bits of pollen that cling to the bee’s hair and fall off at the next flower is what helps with pollination.
