We're thrilled to have Anna Lynn join us for the summer, as our Education Outreach Coordinator. Anna will be supporting the Summer Reading Program and assisting with our Social Media. Anna is studying Biology at UBCO and is on the UBCO Cross Country/Track Team. Funding for her position was made possible through the Canada Summer Job Program.

The Agraphia-ites are the winners of the 7th Annual Team Spelling Bee! It was a close competition this year with two of the ten teams tied at the end of the tie-breaker round. Our Team Spirit Award went to the Kelowna Sunrise Rotary Club. A huge thank you to our title sponsor Urban Systems, our supporting sponsor Source Office Furniture, and our media sponsor, Vista Radio. All funds raised go towards supporting our literacy programs. We look forward to seeing current and new teams at our Team Spelling Bee next year!

Our One to One In School Reading Program for children in grades 1-4 is wrapping up the end of May. On Friday, we held a volunteer appreciation lunch as a thank you to our volunteers. This year over 100 volunteers dedicated their time to help 134 children improve their reading skills. The One to One Reading Program is in 14 elementary schools in the Central Okanagan. The program is funded in part by Decoda Literacy Solutions, the Province of BC, and ONE TO ONE Literacy. The One to One Reading Program will start up again next fall.

The registration for our Annual Spelling Bee Fundraiser is currently open! If you know of any companies that wish to register a team, please share!
Teams are comprised of 8 adults, and the spelling happens all together over a delicious breakfast.

Project Literacy provides free literacy support for adults, immigrants, refugees, seniors, families, and children.
Our summer student position works with the Education Coordinator responsible for the Children’s Summer Reading Program:
Start Date: Monday, May 25, 2026
End Date: Tuesday, August 25, 2026
Number of Hours per week: 30
Hourly wage: $21.00 hour
Major Responsibilities
1. Under the guidance of the Education Coordinator, support the development and delivery of the Children’s Summer Reading Program
2. Sourcing Summer Program education material including books, word games, and other resource material.
3. Communicate with parents to register children into the Summer Reading Program.
4. Generate posters, forms, and social media content (original text, images, video), to share awareness of the Summer Reading Program.
5. Support the Office Administrator with individual projects and tasks, as required.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience
1. Minimum of two years’ post-secondary education in the areas of education, childhood development, social work, psychology, or a related field of study.
2. Experience working with children ages 6-8 years.
3. Experience with summer programs for young children.
4. Excellent written and spoken English skills.
5. Experience with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
6. Previous summer school or summer camp experience preferred.
7. Knowledge of Graphic Design and editing photos and videos for social media.
8. Detail focused.
9. Ability to take direction.
10. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
11. Second language an asset.
12. Must have own transportation for local travel.
