We are now three months into the new year and I want to help you get some of the financial to do's completed.

I know that I have a ton of stuff to get done.

Some examples that I'll be sharing this month to get done are:

1. apply for provincial education grant for kids between 6 &9 years old - goes into an Registered Education Savings Plan

2. building another property for income

3. reviewing portfolio & make any changes

4. consolidate investment accounts into one place

5. apply for a business loan

Well, there you have it. Some things that I can help you with if you want to check back here.

Fingers crossed we can get through at least half of them in March.

Actions speak louder than doing nothing 😉

Now that your financial fears are known and the best to worst case is understood you can now write out the steps to take.

This exercise has helped me take that first step and feel confident that things will be just fine.

Try it!

Next for me is consistency....

I want to feel at peace but how do I get there? This is a constant exercise that I need to practice as I get over analytical about things and fearful about the unknown.

Swipe to see the first day question and also an example of me sharing some of my real life fears around money.

I'll also talk about each fear in my stories this week.

What are your financial fears holding you back from having wellbeing?

What does financial wellbeing mean for you?

For me it is being able to feel safe and comfortable that I'll be able pay my bills whether it's a monthly bill for the mortgage, or a credit card bill. It's also having food in the cupboards and being able to take a break/holiday once a year.

For some it could be just necessities while for others it could be luxuries in life.

I'm here to help you break it down over the next ten days so you have financial wellbeing.

No one tells you about the amount of paperwork that needs to be done once you worked your butt off and then have things or assets.

If don't have significant assets but have dependents - then it's important to buy a term insurance policy to be in place until your oldest child becomes legal at least. Then something is in place for the kids to live. Also, list a trustworthy guardian who will love your kids as their own and ensure they have what they need. This part of who your guardian is can be written in the will.

If you have assets then make sure significant and sentimental items are listed out with instructions on what can be done - to be sold, inherited by someone in particular or you don't care.

Some people who inherit an asset may not know what to do and feel obligated to keep something but really could sell it and put towards something else that could help them.

I talk about this because my two young kids ask if they can have my rings when I die and of course they both want my big rock and not the wedding band. So I told them that the rings can be sold and the money used towards two smaller stones. If this doesn't work for them then dad will take it and make himself a ring.

These documents always seem to be awkward to talk about. But it is so important to have a place for them, especially, so you can tell your executor (the person who you appoint to carry out your wishes) where to find them.

My husband and I will be redoing our will over the next few months. I'm thinking of asking a friend/acquaintance that I know that is trusted and great with paperwork to be our executor. This role is for someone that would not be too close to me as I want them to be able to handle things when everyone else is emotionally struggling with the loss.

I procrastinate due to roles that need to be appointed in the will if anything should happen but no more will I procrastinate.

Do you need to do a will or re-do a will?

For any life insurance policies...check to ensure beneficiary is correct and legal name is written correctly.

It would be terrible if your beneficiary could not access funds.

I noticed one policy has a name spelled wrong. So I'll be fixing that today.

As for home insurance, with prices increasing for materials and labour yo want to check that you have enough money that is paid out to cover a replacement or repair if something goes wrong.

We were told our fence replacement value is quite low on our insurance policy - if something happened to our fence it would cost closer to $15k. I had no idea. This is just an example. You also have to see how this increases your monthly premiums if you increase payouts.

Anything low or high for a payout amount on your insurance policy?

Simply create a folder for each of your insurance policies.

It's good to know where these babies are at for those times that we don't want to happen.

Now that your files are labelled and receipts are sitting in there you can go ahead and submit the receipts to get reimbursed.

I'll let you know how much mine have added up to in a story, if you tell how much your receipts added up to. 😉
