FOOD THAT LOVES YOU BACK
When I was a a teenager, I used to call food 'the devil' and 'crap' - because I felt like it was ruining my health, my body and my beauty. The food I was choosing was causing weight gain, cellulite, acne and raging PMS.
Back then I thought that to eat healthy meant that I would have to eat like a rabbit aka: salads, if I wanted to be healthy, fit and thin.
That sounded boring and devoid of pleasure, so instead I "yo yo" dieted by under eating for prolonged periods and doing aerobics until I ran out of will power. Driven by primal urges, I always eventually swung to the other extreme and binged until I felt sick.
Since I was raised on the standard north american diet, like most of us, I didn't understand that there was a whole world of foods that existed out there that I hadn't tried. Foods that were delicious, decandent...... AND healthy.
At that point I didn't realize that there was a way to be a healthy natural weight without giving up pleasure in food. I thought I was the problem. I didn't understand that it was the quality of the ingredients in the food that I was eating, that was the problem.
I wish I knew back then that virtually everything I enjoyed eating could be made healthy and delicious, with natural, real, whole food ingredients. Back then I was only exposed to foods that were processed, bland and fake tasting, so I had no idea what I was even missing.
Eventually I realized that the reason I didn't like vegetables and found them bland and boring, was because I was only familiar with iceburg lettuce salad and frozen freezer vegetables cooked in the microwave, with a pat of margarine on top.
I had only ever eaten processed "brown bread" (which is just white bread with a bit of fibre and caramel colour added back in). I didn't know I was missing the experience of naturally leavened sourdough bread, the way our ancestors made it with wild yeast.
I also thought I hated meat because I despised the texture of all the gristle and fat that made me want to gag.
So as you can imagine, my body was basically built on the food that I was force fed as a "picky eater" with the gaps filled with cool aid, cereal, toast with Jiffy peanut butter and sugary jam, costco muffins, chips, chocolate bars, cookies, dainties, grilled cheese and french fries.
My diet was filled with white flour, white sugar, table salt, cheese, refined oils, additives and pesticides. It's no wonder that I gained weight gain, had acne and raging PMS by the time I hit puberty.
By my twenties, I was forced to change my eating habits when I was diagnosed with mono making my system so sensitive that I couldn't eat any refined foods at all (without immediately crashing my energy and immune system). My newly sensitive system taught me very clearly which foods were good for me and which were not.
As a result, I literally transformed my kitchen from the standard north american diet to one of whole foods practically overnight. Not only did I recover from mono without missing a day of work, but within 6 months my acne and PMS were gone too. To my surprise, I lost 15 lbs without counting a single calorie or even thinking about my weight.
I put my health first and the weight released naturally, because my body no longer needed the fat as a storage container to protect my body from the chemicals that I didn't know were coming in with my food - AND my metabolism finally had the nutrients it needed to function optimally.
Since natural food tasted way better and gave me my health back, I would never dream of returning to my old ways. Now I can eat whatever I want without ill health or weight gain, by choosing the right ingredients and making homemade recipe that are healthy. My choice to eat real food is not only better for me, but it's better for farmers, workers, animals and the planet too.
We are all designed to eat whole foods, not artificial food products. We are meant to steward the lives of animals, not confine them.
Farmers should not have to expose themselves and their workers to chemical sprays to grow food for us. Our food systems and security should be sustainable for the health of our planet too.
It all changes by making increasingly conscious choices with our buying power.
When we eat the natural food of our own species, we get the health that was meant for us. When we eat processed, adulterated, mass produced foods sprayed with chemicals, we create an environment in our body that makes us susceptible to disease.
Eating artificial foods creates sick people dependant on medications who are left feeling devitalized, depressed, and with very little energy - just enough to go to work (if that), watch TV, scroll screens and be consumers and then do it all over again the next day.
I don't believe that that's the plan the creator intended for us.
I used to call food the devil not because I knew I was eating artificial food, but because I could feel that what I was eating was harming me.
If we want to have energy to be creative, have a positive outlook on life, be healthy and maintain a healthy natural weight, then we need to eat, live and embody the life that the creator designed for us.
Creator's plan = natural food + natural lifestyle (nature, sun, grounding, community) + eat abundantly & move naturally
Devils's plan = artificial food + artificial lifestyle (trapped inside buildings, artificial light, no connection to the earth, disconnected from each other and plugged into screens ) + eat less & exercise to death
So what's your plan?
I suggest beginning by turning your kitchen into a healing sanctuary, to align your environment with your intentions, goals and up-levelled health consciousness.
Get inspired to take your health into your own hands by learning health consciousness that is rooted in NATURAL HEALTH principles and get excited to try new foods and be creative in the kitchen.
MAINSTREAM 'health consciousness' is little more than advertising campaigns built by marketers that are pushed out by government institutions such as mainstream media, education and health care (which is actually sick care).
None of it is designed to create health.
You don't have to wait for permission to take your health back.
