This weekend my coach Simpson Go made the trip up to Kelowna to run a seminar at RDC, and it meant a lot to me to have my students experience our jiujitsu lineage.

It was cool watching everyone see the lineage firsthand: how much of what we do here traces straight back with the similarities, and where our approaches differ. That’s the beauty of this art. It gets passed down, and every coach adds their own fingerprints.

Just as valuable was the time off the mats. Good food, good conversation, and a reminder of why I do this. 20+ years on the mats together and it feels just like old times.

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported. The room was full and the energy was great. We’ll be doing this again.

The switch is a great way to wrestle up or create back exposure from the closed guard when you are feeling trapped on the bottom. This is also a great move from half guard and butterfly guard as well.
