McDonald's Taiwan adds a culturally specific chapter to its brand storytelling with "Kung Fries" (功夫薯條), a 2025 campaign built with Leo Taiwan (Leo Burnett Taipei) around one of the most quietly universal food frustrations: a fry disappearing from your tray. Instead of treating the insight as a punchline alone, the brand uses it to explore Taiwan's discomfort with direct confrontation and its fading connection to traditional martial arts, folding both into a fictional fighting style built to defend fries. A cinematic short film sets up the concept, shifting from teenage romance to full-blown kung fu spectacle, while five named defensive techniques extend the idea into shareable, replicable content. Restaurant tray mats, styled activations and a 24-karat gold fry prize round out a campaign designed to keep the story going well past its initial launch.
