Senpai Chase Chase Hobson taking the tatami at the Guadalajara Youth League 🇲🇽🥋🔥

But what makes us even more proud is what happens when he comes home.

Every Monday evening, Senpai Chase is back on the dojo floor helping with our Pre-Comp program, sharing his experience, energy, and love of kumite with the next generation of RHKA athletes.

Our younger students don’t just get to watch athletes like Chase compete on the world stage. They get to train beside them, learn from them, and see firsthand where hard work can take them.

This is what building the next generation looks like. ❤️🥋

Way to represent, Senpai Chase! 🇨🇦🔥

Power, humbling and impactful words from Senpai Jocelyn Fennell Truth and reconciliation isn’t just a date on a calendar to me. It feels surreal at times, because it happens unexpectedly every day. It is a constant process of finding new information and gaining a deeper understanding of who I am.
I think back to how I used to wear my hair down or in a ponytail because wearing two braids made me feel like a stereotypical, or singled out for being First Nation .

I think about how I’m only now reconnecting with fancy dancing, something I loved to do when I attended Pow wow celebrations when I was young. And how I’m meeting family I had only ever heard little bits about growing up. I am thankful to be growing in my First Nation traditions and culture.

When I lived in a town without a large Indigenous community, karate gave me a place where I could feel connected, confident, and not singled out.

But outside of those spaces, it sometimes feels like others know more about me than I know about myself. And that’s the scary part.
But that fear is also what pushes me to be unapologetic about digging deeper into who I am. To keep learning, reconnecting, and understanding. To be proud of myself, my First Nation roots and traditional territory.

But on this Day for Truth and Reconciliation, I deeply appreciate the support system I have as I uncover what I didn’t know before. 🧡

“The road we travel is equal in importance to the destination we seek. There are no shortcuts. When it comes to truth and reconciliation, we are all forced to go the distance.”
— Justice Murray Sinclair, former Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

No classes this Wednesday, September 30, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. 🧡

This day is an important opportunity to reflect on the history and ongoing impacts of the residential school system, to honour the children who never returned home, the survivors, their families and communities, and to continue learning about the work of reconciliation.

At RHKA, we believe respect, understanding and community are values that extend well beyond the dojo.

Regular programs will run as usual on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

We encourage our RHKA families to take time on Wednesday to learn, reflect and recognize the importance of this day.

A huge thank you to Sensei for the impact he continues to make in the karate community!

Sensei’s passion for coaching reaches far beyond the walls of our dojo. Through camps, tournaments, seminars and years of dedication to the sport, he has helped inspire and support athletes from across the country.

During this coach’s week we must take the opportunity to recognize and show appreciation for Sensei Ashtin Callaghan.

As a coach your success or failure sometimes rests with your passion for your sport and team. Sensei Ashtin’s passion for karate and RHKA are hard to match. She brings her all in every class, for every individual student.

Broadening her horizons and now working with committee’s both at the Provincial and National level, RHKA benefits from such a progressive coach and advocate for standards in our sport.

Let celebrate Sensei Ashtin for being such a strong part of RHKA.
