My students must be ballers. Just throwing away water bottles every single class 😂

Coaches and gym owners hear me out….. But what if we start a side business selling used water bottles ?
I feel like we would make millions !!!

Let me know if your gym looks like this at the end of the night every night ? 😆😂😆

Courtney Scott Thank you so much for making the place look fresh and clean for the market. I love you ❤️😍😘

It’s lessons / moment / goodies like these that I really love about seminars. It’s the broken down detailed basics I really love to learn to dissect like this.
Gabriel Varga is a fantastic teacher. Would be awesome to have him back here again sometime.

This clip is from the seminar we had at the gym a little while back. But I’m always looking back on videos and refreshing the memory from seminars.
Every video and lesson we have from this one, was a Gem for sure 👌🏼

Intercepting Movement

When your partner or opponent shows movement coming forward to can intercept their movement with a counter, even before their strike reaches you.
How do you do this ?
Timing. You practice distance, timing, rhythm. Someone coming forward and you time your strike against their strike before it reaches you.
Super difficult going at a faster pace. But that’s why we practice drills.
Start slow, and grow 🙏🏼

Rule #5 - Keep the gym clean & pick up after yourself.

It’s very important to train in a clean environment. One thing that folks need to think about is infections can happen from open wounds that aren’t cleaned properly and then if that’s brought into a gym that’s not cleaned properly, that’s a bad recipe for staph infection.

So, cleaning the gym EVERY single night. Cleaning the mats, cleaning the pads, the gear you used and PUT AWAY.

Wherever you grabbed the gear from, that’s where it goes back to clean and tidy.
Not taking it from one place and leaving it on the floor not cleaned. Again, this comes back to rule 1, respect.

So, my rule #5, and not is any particular order, is leave the gym and the equipment the way you found it. Clean, tidy and put away 🙏🏼

Rule #4 - Proper Hygiene

In Martial Arts we’re working hard, it’s hot a lot of the times in the gym, people are sweating like crazy, we’re crushing pads, sparring and clinching.

It’s important to show up to class having a clean body, clean clothes, nails cut, toe nails cut.

If you show up dirty, clothes not washed, smelly, nails not cut. This is super disrespectful. And shows you don’t care about the people around you.

Also not masking stinky clothes with cologne or perfume. Some people like myself are super sensitive to smells.
So it also comes back around to being respectful.

When in the gym, please show up clean, nails cut and ready to do whatever techniques are assigned that day 🙏🏼

Rule #3 - No Whining

Martial Arts classes aren’t built around just what YOU want to do or what you don’t want to do.
Whatever your teacher / Kru is teaching that day, you should listen, be ready to learn, not complaining about the technique or drill we did or didn’t do.
This comes back to being respectful to your teacher.
Your teacher has spent time that day planning and thinking of techniques and drills for you to enjoy and learn and grow your knowledge.
The last thing they want from you is for you to complain about this or that.

ENJOY the journey -
Not today, maybe not tomorrow but there will be a day in the future when you hang the gloves up for the very last time.
So be present, enjoy the training and your time in the gym / Dojo 🙏🏼

Rule #2 - Be Focused

After you bow onto the mats, gotten ready for class to begin and you are in class. You must remain focused.

No cell phones, no head phones, no aimless talking.
When in class you have to be focused on the task at hand.

Yourself and the people around you are here to learn, expand your knowledge, grow as Martial Artists.
If someone is just messing around, not paying attention, being loud and not respectful.
Then how are you and the people around you supposed to learn ?

So, my rule 2 I will say once in the gym / Dojo. Remain focused, listen and be ready to learn 🙏🏼

Rule #1 - Respect

Above everything else the most important to me in the gym and in life is respect.

Over my years in Martial Arts dating back to 1996, starting out in traditional Arts, I was lucky enough to have really solid teachers / role models as a Kid in the Dojo.

I was always taught when coming into the Dojo / Gym you Bow, you bow before touching the mat, you bow when leaving the mat, you bow to each other and you bow to your teachers.

Even when I see my teachers and other teachers outside of the gym, I always bow. It’s a sign of respect.

So to me, at Top Notch it’s respect above all things.

To your gym, to your teachers, to your fellow students and to everyone around you.

As Martial Artists always show respect 🙏🏼
