One of our teams, Campus Waste Initiatives will hold the SORTING game in EME first Floor this Tuesday (Jan 31) and Thursday (Feb 2) from 12:00 - 2:00 PM.

Come to get involved and learn how to sort different types of waste into different waste bins!

Solar Decathlon Design Challenge 2023

IDS at UBC Okanagan has partnered with Thompson Rivers University (TRU) to compete in the 2023 Solar Decathlon Design Challenge. We are one of 124 teams, from 97 collegiate institutions, competing in this prestigious international design competition.
Over the next five months, the IDS team will design a four-unit multi-generational residential building (with one accessible unit) using materials sourced within 800 km of the project site. This resilient home will be engineered to withstand the extreme climate of Lytton, BC while meeting BC Step 5 and DOE Net Zero Ready requirements. Students will implement passive design strategies and life cycle assessment to create a LEED Platinum-ready design.

Our team aspires to promote sustainable, resilient, and socially equitable housing in British Columbia while building a lasting IDS Solar Decathlon team that participates in the competition yearly and is committed to developing students’ leadership in multi-disciplinary subjects of the built environment.

Welcome to the Innovate, Design, Sustain (IDS) Club at UBCO! We are a new (and the first!) sustainability-focused design club at UBC's Okanagan campus. We started this club to provide a platform for all students who want to make a change in our environment for the better. We believe that if we all come together, we can achieve a great impact in our environment by using science, engineering, and creativity.

We are currently proposing projects that address different areas of sustainability—which include installing solar powered benches around the campus to charge phones, making and promoting reusable wrapping, managing food waste on campus, and more! We will introduce all these project plans in our first general meeting with all student members, and will together choose which ones to proceed with this semester.
