Kids don’t have jobs, so why would they need an occupational therapist?
A child’s “occupations” are the meaningful activities they do every day, such as playing, learning, getting dressed, making friends, and participating at home and school.
Pediatric occupational therapists help children build the skills they need to navigate daily life. This may include learning to regulate emotions, draw and write, jump and climb, complete self-care tasks, play, and interact with peers, and so much more!

Fine Motor Friday!
Fine motor skills are small, precise movements of the hands and fingers used for everyday tasks like writing, buttoning, cutting, and play.
Some simple ways to practice at home:
- Use tongs or clothespins to pick up small objects (pom-poms, snacks, or blocks).
Why it matters:
• Builds hand strength
• Supports pencil control
• Develops coordination
• Encourages bilateral use of hands

In pediatric therapy, connection comes before progress. Before the goals, milestones, and skill-building, there’s trust, safety, play, and relationship.
Our clinicians focus on meaningful relationships with kiddos and their families to support effective treatment.

Spring is the perfect time to support kids’ development through movement, play, and fresh air 🌿
Here are 3 ways to help kids get active this season:
1. Make outdoor play the part of learning and growing
Scavenger hunts, playground time, and nature walks support gross motor skills, sensory regulation, and attention, all through play.
2. Build movement into everyday routines
Scootering to school, jumping challenges before dinner, or chalk obstacle courses turn ordinary moments into active opportunities.
3. Mix sensory and movement play
Bubbles, water play, digging in dirt, and climbing all help kids regulate their bodies while building strength and coordination.

We have offices in Kamloops and Kelowna British Columbia where our clinicians see kids for occupational therapy sessions. If in-person sessions do not work, virtual sessions are common as well to support accessibility!

Kids regulate in different ways and there’s no one “right” strategy.
Some children feel more regulated through movement and heavy work, like animal walks, jumping, or pushing/pulling activities. Others reset best through calm, quiet, sensory-soft spaces like cozy corners, reading, or deep pressure rest.
Both are valid. Both are helpful. And often, kids need a mix of both depending on the day, their energy, and what their nervous system is asking for.

Sometimes the best therapy tools look like a sandbox.
Digging, pouring, and exploring textures helps kids regulate their bodies, focus their attention, and make sense of the world around them.
