The 5 W’s 🖐🏻
Reading sessions focus on developing a child’s reading ability, confidence to read aloud and comprehension.
Today’s session we ‘skimmed and scanned’ the chapter we had just read to find the 5 W’s! Skimming and scanning is a helpful technique to enable young readers to be flexible, to find information quickly and more purposefully.

Throwback Thursday to painting daffodils with my grade one class during my first placement. 🌼
I attended university abroad in Wales UK, to complete my teaching certification this past school year. It was an amazing experience to engage with education internationally and culturally. Wales is introducing a new curriculum and many of its components are based on our Canadian curriculum.
One of my favourite part of the Welsh curriculum is their holistic approach to learning. They are committed that all learners will be:
• ambitious, capable learners
• enterprising, creative contributors
• ethical, informed citizens
• healthy, confident individuals
I continue to prioritize these four purposes in my own planning, teaching and learning.🍎

By integrating mathematics and visual art into this mornings sessions, learners were able to practice identifying 2D shapes and their properties (sides, vertices, lines of symmetry) and use this knowledge to create shape art.
Shape art provides opportunities to discuss fundamental art concepts such as shape, line, and colour. 🔺◾️🔹

When I was aspiring to be a teacher I knew I wanted to be apart of my educational path.
I studied at Western for my undergraduate and loved my time there. I was able to take a range of courses to prepare for teaching primary education.
In my final year I had a chance to study educational philosophy and many of the theories and perspectives influence my teaching practice today.
One of my favourites is “The purpose of education is to give to the body and to the soul all the beauty and all the perfection of which they are capable”- Plato 🍎
